What did you do in the Apiary today?

Not much - bit of ivy & tamarisk but even the asters have gone over now. Trouble is it’s very mild so they’re out even if it’s raining. Some of it is orientation too.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Finished vaping a few weeks ago but it’s been so mild here - 20 degrees yesterday (!) so the bees are out all the time burning energy. I am concerned that they will blast through all their stores before Christmas at this rate so I’m peeking through the top & hefting every 2-3 weeks while it’s...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Both. All hives have clear crownboards so I can peek in and I do a two finger lift from the back. My measure is if I can lift it, they’re a bit light.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Bit of a mixed bag yesterday. Fondant gone on every single hive. It’s been so mild here, they’ve been out & flying virtually every day so have gone through everything. All hives topped up, most look good & still plenty of bees. No unnecessary inspections just observing from the top and...

18 degrees here today and bees are out like it’s spring! Still ivy around so at least they have some forage.

Not sure it is cleaning. Possibly evicting an intruder?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Now there’s a plan. Our garden fences & pergolas are a sea of spikes to stop them sh*tting everywhere 😡

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I don’t think they’re that bothered. I’ve got one hive with a tiny entrance due to wasp issues. They just look like they’re all forming an orderly queue to get in!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Mind you weird stuff is flowering here. I’ve got blossom on one of my apple trees and the persicaria is throwing up flower buds….. 😱

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Hmmmmm, don’t know anything that is black. Poppies & borage are dark grey. Pale yellow could be pumpkins/squash maybe?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I agree. I only bought some in spring as I lost several colonies over winter and needed to build up quickly without the expense of buying several nucs. The only exception was a queen from Paynes (Roger and Becky now trading as R & R Bee Company doing nucs and queens only) - that queen is great...
