What did you do in the Apiary today?

I had a couple of those yesterday when it was only 1 degree. Reckon they were bursting for a poo!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Not the apiary as such but did a lovely Christmas Fair at the weekend and delivered a couple of boxes of mini jars to a local business for their Christmas hampers for customers. Thanks to @Newbeeneil for the great tip about filling using condiments containers, it was so quick!

    What’s your labour rate?

Absolutely. It was a to let my OH know how much it cost to get started as so many people starting out don’t realise that you don't just get a hive and bees, it’s all the peripheral and ongoing kit that’s needed. I am lucky that my OH doesn't mind (too much) when big boxes of stuff appear a few...

I have a few ‘older’ 190ml panel jars from F&H and they’re 25g heavier than the recent delivery…

    Filling small jars.

I’m doing 160 this week for a local company that’s sending out gifts to their customers.

    Jar deal

Interesting as I started with round jars and have received zero comments about it. I think people here just want the honey, they’re not concerned about the jar type. Also think that the text displays better for my design.

    What’s your labour rate?

In my first year of beekeeping, I worled out I would have to sell my honey for £48.50 a jar to break even!!

    Are you still inspecting? November?

I’ve only been checking for fondant stores as they’re burning through it with all this mild weather. Had good reason to check a hive today. All others flying (14 degrees here), this one dead quiet. Believe they’ve been decimated by some sort of rodent predation as piles of eviscerated dead bees...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Probably a couple of weeks as even though they’re in the garden, I don’t look at them every day and it started with a tiny pile as the drones were being kicked out.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Hefted the home hives and topped up fondant as they’ve all been flying madly. One hive looks low on bees so I’m going to dummy them down to help keep warm. Bit concerned with the growing pile of bee corpses behind the hives though. Neat piles with their abdomens chewed out. I can’t decide if...

    Mouse guards

Thi I think the mice in my garden are eating the dead & dying bees. Big neat piles of corpses behind the hives by the fence!
