    2:1 or fondant?

    Is it too late??

Depends on weather. Usually manage until mid/end October and then switch to fondant. Still quite mild here.

    Is it too late??

They have been fine all year. Just went frumpy around the time the super was removed. They are due some 2:1 at the end of October. Is it advisable to feed whilst caroa treatment is ongoing?

    Is it too late??

About 3 frames capped/uncapped on the last inspection.

    Is it too late??

I have the opposite in one hive. Hive is bursting with bees some of whom are still bringing in the last remains of Balsam. Took super off and replace with varroa treatment. Will feed when treatment is over. Bees are foul tempered as hell so plan to avoid going near except for treatment and feed.

    Lonely Queen

Too late. Just had a look in and - no queen despite almost taking the have apart. The few uncapped brood were unattended with the low bee count. Only workers spotted seem to be robbers from a neighbouring hive. I think you are correct jenkinsbrynmair, the queen has made little progress since she...

Bee barely cover one frame but are scattered throughout the hive in small groups as is capped/uncapped brood.

    Lonely Queen

I have a colony which has been ailing for some time. A late requeen resulted in a low bee count which has diminished over the last couple of months. No visible sign of disease and poor forging compared to a nearby hive. I am left with a virtually empty hive with a scattering of open and capped...

    Extractor Cleaning

    Extractor Cleaning

Thanks for that. Recalling that image each time I extract will make the whole process of extraction more pleasurable.

    Air in honey

Just extracted some honey, Spun frames, filtered and left in settling tank for 24hrs. Removed air bubbles from surface using cling film and jarred the honey. There are still some air bubbles in the jar, probably due to my lack of jarring skills. Should I allow to settle again and re-jar again...

    Extractor Cleaning

Thanks everyone. I dismantled it as it was not running smoothly. Cleaned the parts with hot soapy water followed by a good rinse to remove the suds. Replace various nuts/bolts with stainless as the previous used had used non-stainless (rusty) ones for some reason. Runs like a dream so spun 6...

A further therapeutic use for honey?

Disappointing. I ate 6 spoonfuls of honey last night and only 5 worked.

    Extractor Cleaning

Just about to do my first extraction. I have a borrowed four frame tangential extractor which needs a good clean. I can't reach down to the bottom of the tub to clean it due to the mechanisms and wondered if there is a standard procedure for cleansing extractors or will I have to dismantle it?

    Ragwort

I trust you've appointed a Deputy to look after your hives ............ just in case you don't make it.

    Solstice

Odd way to complete your hive inspections - rather risky too.
