And once again the gullible queue up to be gulled

Would CBD oils work? They claim to cure almost any ailment so why not on bees.

    First Swarm Sweep Stake!

Put my name down for the Useless Beekeeper of the Month prize but can it be won on a rolling basis?

    Fondant vs natural stores question.

Cut a 1.25kg bag into quarters. Each quarter fits into a 500ml plastic takeaway container. Put the lid back on and store. To feed take off the lid and invert it over the crownboard hole. Changing packs takes less than one minute in cooler temps.

    Cold spell ahead.

That was my big fear that they would simply help themselves to the syrup and store it rather than use it for comb. I'll leave the fondant on for now until the weather improves.

    Cold spell ahead.

Just pondering the eventual removal of fondant when the spring flow starts. Is it wise to add syrup for a short time after, to aid comb drawing when the first "new foundation" supers go on?

    Government Response to Petition

Doubtful, I'm not sure anyone knows for certain. Possibly a trace of honey topped up with syrupy sugary stuff? No don't we'll never find out for sure. Sainsbury don't say it's adulterated rubbish but 75p per half pound jar gives a clue.

    Government Response to Petition

Yes 75p per jar as opposed to £5+ for proper stuff.

    Government Response to Petition

Massive step forward for mankind from Sainsbury's? Their 75p jars of "honey?" are now labelled as "produce of China" a fact that we all knew but was concealed under the "produce of EU and non EU countries". They've always sold this tat under the latter description, at least now they are...

    Nice View of Jupiter Tonight

Look like the gobstoppers we used to buy as kids.

    Sunrise today

Of course everyone knows that it's to allow a few extra minutes for Santa to deliver the presents. Please be patient with the old sod and we can then get on with the 2023 season prep after he signs off for another year.

The law and bee keeping , the use of agricultural land for bees

Good idea but Great plan but make sure you get a full herd of pigs - say 40 or so. Having just one or two would constitute a domestic/hobby as they would be considered as pets.

The law and bee keeping , the use of agricultural land for bees

Of course it's not the planning dept who make the final decision (unless delegated) it's the planning committee of elected councillors. Have a word with the local councillor(s), who might have more common sense.

The law and bee keeping , the use of agricultural land for bees

He seems to be making it up as he goes along. His opinion is irrellevant unless backed up by clear legialation. His "all supermarkets in Yorkshire" is both laughable and unprofessional. BBKA will probably have a better grasp than he has. I'd be tempted to put a couple of hives there and see what...

QE in or out for winter?

Looking for advice re the QE. Currently my set up is brood box; QE; crown board; empty super containing takeaway container of fondant; 75mm slab of Kingspan; roof, Question is do I leave the QE on or remove it? The bees are munching the fondant so I assume that they will feed the queen without...

    Requeening

Bee poo on house windows and cars

Isn't it similar to blaming your neighbour beekeeper for getting stung. Proving it was his/her bees as opposed to a feral on is virtulally impossible. Similarly to prove it is your bees who pooed on a car/washing/window you they would have to show that there are no other colonies within reach of...

Women for Bees Initiative on World Bee Day

Does this "Women for Bees Initiative" mean that she won't share any of her "bee knowledge" with me 'cos I'm a bloke? A bit miffed!

    Varroa Treatment and Feeding

Great news thanks. Eke comes off when treatment is complete so the syrup/fondant supply will be close to the frame tops.

    Varroa Treatment and Feeding

I am currently treating for varroa using Apiguard. Placed the tin on top of the brood frames and put a 50mm eke (to give them room to climb into the tin) followed by a crownboard and rapid feeder within an empty super, and then the roof. Just a bit concerned that the 50mm gap between the...

    Is it too late??
