    Vevor extractors again!!

    What do others think?

    Vevor extractors again!!

Oh and the dimensions of the basket are definitely wrong on the vevor website for the quoted barrel size.

    Vevor extractors again!!

Whereas the eBay advert for the 4/8 looks identical to the 4. God knows which version you will get.

    Vevor extractors again!!

From the pictures on the vevor website it looks like the 4/8 takes 4 tangentially and 4 radially. If the dimensions are to be believed, the barrel is actually slightly smaller than the 4 frame version.

    Vevor extractors again!!

Surely the 4/8 and 4 is the same extractor?

What's flowering as forage in your area

Really? I guess everybody's taste buds are different. To me it had a metallic sort of taste. I fed a bucket of it back to the bees over winter to get rid of it. I'm currently melting another bucket that I'm hoping is more ivy (which I don't mind). We had a few odd fields last autumn, a...

What's flowering as forage in your area

There is a field like this about half a mile away from me. I assume it is a type of forage crop as it is quite patchy and there are a couple of cows now in with it. There are no visible turnips though. Couldn't see any honeybees from the gate, but there is plenty of other stuff coming into...

'Eco' Tree Hives or disease-bombs in waiting?

A tip for anyone who has one like this: make sure you anchor the legs well as mine blew over.

    Temporary eviction of Welsh bees

God this forum can be a depressing read. In addition to maintaining access for the bats that roost in the roof, additional small gaps around the eaves and under the slates at the ends of the building will be carefully added so the bees can return to their old home.

'Eco' Tree Hives or disease-bombs in waiting?

I must admit to being taken aback by the number of likes your post has got because I don't understand it all. I have not been negative about the tree hive except one sentence. I would have preferred something like 'the wild honey bee population has been struggling' on the information board...

'Eco' Tree Hives or disease-bombs in waiting?

It's not massively different from my Warre hives. I'm sure a chunk of comb could be cut out if needs be. They are not going to be the initial source of EFB/AFB. A couple of years ago I went around Lowther castle and there were lots of leave alone "freedom" hives high up in the trees. There...

'Eco' Tree Hives or disease-bombs in waiting?

Just had a quick google. Machines seem to vary greatly in price.

How do you print on wood like that?

'Eco' Tree Hives or disease-bombs in waiting?

I don't like that either, but let's be fair the worst at exploiting this are commercial beekeepers. Beekeepers who get sponsorship for their hives, convince companies to put beehives on their roofs/sites to offset their carbon/pollution/planet destruction. Is it me or are these the same...

Sulphur Discs from Thornes ? needed?

I'm practically at that point already. Do I actually enjoy looking at the internet? Probably not, it's just habit. The 'dead internet theory' doesn't seem like the wild theory anymore. I realise it is a little bit hypercritical to complain about this since I own a website that has largely...

    Foundation alternatives

Layens (and the early Polish authors who appear to have copied his diagrams on this) recommends cutting extracted comb into strips and attaching one of those to the top of a new frame. If you want worker size comb then use strips with worker size cells.

    Does foundation matter?

I don't buy foundation, but if I did I'd be looking for something that said it was sterilised. Something like this https://beekeeping.co.uk/pages/sterilised-wax-foundation

    Foundation alternatives

I found the kebab skewers caused wonky comb as the bees tended to build around the skewer. You can see that happening in the photo.

    Apiary vandalism / animal rights

It's not very funny with the link edited out.

    Apiary vandalism / animal rights

I'm just not sure if PollenPirate is going to turn up at my house or BlackMountainHoney's.
