How many bee years are you upto?

A turning point in my beekeeping a few years back was following your advice on inspections and checking for swarm cells without taking out frames. It made things a lot quicker and easier.

How many bee years are you upto?

It's Friday after a long week of work. The bottle is definitely the answer. That's what I'm going with anyway

So was the question 'Glamorous and safe places in the UK to send the wife off to'?

    crystallizing honey

Looks a lot like my spring honey, set with a lot of dandilion. Selling as soft set would require it to be softer and smoother. If you have customers that like it like that then fair enough but I wouldn't call it 'soft set', just 'set' :) .

    Hybrids & defensive/aggressive behaviour

Leave bees alone and they will revert back to being defensive and aggressive because that is what is natural. That is why a lot of beekeepers buy in their queen's that are raised from carefully selected stock.

Where do forum members (those who buy their queens) buy their queens from?

I enjoy fishing. I'm hopeless at it though. I went a few times in Autumn on the Norfolk broads. I tried to catch Perch and Pike with lures. I got nothing :ROFLMAO:

Exmoor bees and beehives. Great queens but sadly no long chats on the phone anymore with Pete

God I love growing our own

My strawberry plants were getting a bit old so I spent some time pulling them all up out of a raised bed. Does anyone have recommendations? I'm going to grow some more from seed, looking for a large and sweet variety. I'm not too keen on sharp strawberries. Does anyone have any recommendations...

    Oxalic pan vape

I use a heavy car battery. It's ok in a wheelbarrow though with all the other bits n bobs.

Folklore & festivals, and local legends/words

I talk to mine just to air my thoughts on a winters day. They tend to show more interest than my wife.

    Polystyrene v Cedar

They kept bees in skeps far longer than in Langstroth style hives. I wonder if beekeepers used that as an argument not to use the new technology. I love using wood and Poly

    Plastic Beehives

I like both. The insulation properties of Poly are great and the results are clear to see during spring build up. You need to be careful getting that first frame out with the hive tool though. I've also notice the bees chewing around the entrance when a mouse guard is in use, not that it...

Do you think queen excluders encourage swarming or limit the size of the colony? I'm undecided
