    Question on Snelgrove and Demaree

I think you are over complicating things. It is fine and normal for the upper boxes to be full of honey ready to take off at the end of summer to be extracted as normal. It's a non issue

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I checked an artificial swarm that I did two weeks ago to make sure she was laying and to my suprise, they filled up a super!

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

What do you fine folk use to make your crown/clearer boards? Is it ok to use ply or will that warp? Ta

I was wondering - those with two/three hives, do you split or just demaree?

Did anyone manage to Demeree this Spring? I didn't have the opportunity. It went from too cold for the brood not to chill in a demeree to then hot and swarmy and needing artificial swarms. I guess I could have caught them for a demeree when the weather improved but it was difficult to tell if...

    Bee sting protocol

No allergies so far in the family. I guess you would just have to react. It just feels a little different being the beekeeper and not knowing

    Bee sting protocol

How do you introduce children to beekeeping that have never been stung? I have a 1 year old that eventually will take an interest in the bees and likely get stung. Not knowing if he is allergic or not terrifies me. What do you do? Keep the engine running in case of a quick dash to the hospital...

    Clearer boards made cheap.

    Great. Thank you

What would you do for this failing colony?

Not enough bees to be able to nurture the brood if you introduced a new queen. The bees will die off before they could build the brood up and the new queen would die along with them, wasting your time and money.

    Clearer boards made cheap.

Hi Polyhive. I am wondering if you still have the photos for these. I vaguely remember what they looked like when originally posted but never got around to building a few myself. Thank you

Hi. Welcome to the forum. Do you live in a built up area? Leaving the bees to swarm may cause issues with neighbours if you have any.

Hi. Where did you get that version? Cheers

    Demaree

I was going to try a demeree this year but I found swarm cells as soon as the cold weather lifted so missed the opportunity!

Landowner not giving me access to my out-apiary

I will never understand why people leave their poo bags littered around. 'Hmm, what is worse than leaving my dog's ***** behind? I know! I'll preserve it in plastic!' One of the great mysteries in life that I will never fathom.

    Polyhives

Hi. With polyhives being significantly more expensive than wooden seconds at the moment, I am wondering if the polyhives would make up that cost difference in producing more honey. I have read that they can produce up to 15% more honey compared to a colony in wood that has similar variables...

    Beekeeping suits

I wear a beejacket and jeans. I used to wear wellies but it just makes beekeeping unenjoyable wearing too hot clobber.

    Weather

Thanks. I'll have a look. I've been looking for a breathable waterproof solution to cycle to work for a while

Do you reckon they would be good for cycling to work?

    Weather

I have a barbour wax jacket. It looks nice and ok to wear for 10 minute walk to the pub but I have no idea what other use they are good for due to the reasons you say. In winter you sweat and get cold, in summer you sweat and get poached. Stylish but useless
