    The National Uncapper

I suspect a brush is quicker than the new uncapper as it deals with lumps & bumps better by just cutting the frame square. Im now on our second brush, now in its sixth season with not much visible wear. I am looking at having a auto uncapper currently, but for the hobby market the new roller...

How to spot a french beekeeper

Used to use the Swienty magnetic holder, until late May when one fell off & I ran over the smoker, luckily I always have a couple of spare dadent on the shelf. I was bloody annoyed as yet again an expensive piece of kit is in reality, crap.

    Extractor wobble

Our fritz arrived with rubber feet, but now it is firmly bolted to the floor, haven't got the time to mess about getting it perfectly balanced when loading and like always its a compromise. Not had any issues with the legs or drum yet.

Best way to re-queen "Hot" hive?

Just for info, as not suitable for the OP situation because of the footpath, but if I can't find the queen. I move original hive away from their position, put Q+ nuc in place in clean brood box, any supers placed back on with QX & newspaper, Then take original colony as far away as possible...

    Oz armour?

We do. My oldest suit @ four years now resembles a bag of rags, but is still used daily. I think there's around twelve in the rotation. Hoods are a massive pain to drive in until they have softened up, then they will push almost flat against your back. Before using for the first time I give...

    DiY homey spinner

The best pair of home built extractors were at John Whents, built by himself and both were swing baskets as far as I remember. John has also built his own hive lifter.

    Straining honey

Having worked in various slaughterhouses, by far the worst was chickens, with horses a close second. The most amusing moment though was finding a bear sat on the loo reading the paper. This was in the rendering plant, the bear Having arrived deceased from the local zoo.

What to do with Laying Worker frames?

Generally I don't swap frames between colonies, just in case there's a nasty lurking, you would be better to just melt out and start again.

    Sac brood

Bald brood could/would more likely be an indication of wax moth issues. Original nuc could have been a swarm caught on old comb etc etc.

    Honey labels

All will be stopped, but need to win the lottery first. It's next on the list though, now that the forensic accountant is dealing with the ex. I very nearly did give up, but now glad that I didn't.

    Honey labels

In theroy, you can't, Our trademark is both higher & lower case letters.

    Honey labels

The most infuriating is the attitude of the BFA, which is supposedly an organisation for its members and to promote beefarming. At least two other members are blatantly using our name, yet when I fetched this to the board the response was, "it is a commercial matter and not for us to address"...

    Honey labels

Since we had our business name trademarked at least six others are using the name. I've had all sorts of excuses, from "sorry " I wasn't aware, to " you can't trademark two words ". It cost two grand and a lot of paperwork, and it is bloody infuriating to see others using our name, so I am a...

    F0 Breeder Queen

Never had an issue with Marco. We have purchased over 70 queens so far this season. i do pay the insurance though. maybe Marco should have an opportunity to respond to such a damning post that could potentially harm his business. As an aside, we had a terrible time last year with another...

    Chronic Bee Paralysis

Found three cases yesterday, one which is probably terminal, the other two might pul through. Removed the floors & buried the dead & fingers crossed. These were big colonies, eight frames of 14/12 brood ready for going to Borage.

How To Combine Nuc With Hive?

I usually put the nuc in a hive, move original colony & treat as drone laying and throw out as have been caught out by having a virgin in the original colony. move any brooded frames into the box with the nuc on original site.
