    Beekeeping cars

My mk3 focus is like that, amazing the amount that can be crammed in when we are off to the market, bought it brand new while still on the transporter. It should hit 200,000 next month, one clutch, one injector, two front wheel bearings, two timing belt kits and one front spring that's all the...

That’s the way I’m thinking of going i should also mention the sump issue is it’s just not big enough anymore. It’s only 18 month old and I’ve outgrown it !!!

    Beekeeping cars

Have you seen Chris Mantons rece posts regarding their L200’s, plus I wouldn’t mind a tenner for every top end rebuild I’ve done on one of those.

    Ross Rounds?

At the moment the rounds went onto the reserve list of things to do. A lot changed this year. My now ex job came to an end and I made the decision to push the numbers and make beefarming my full time occupation, so then came the Staffing questions. Wendy was 50% through her masters degree and...

If you had to start again..

A lot of ours are now, almost your opposite. 14x12 top bee space single box with Hoffman frames & commercial supers with Manley frames. These travel well, which is a must as we move a lot. Most permanent sites are now std national which are then demereed. As I'm now starting to feel my age the...

If you had to start again..

After twenty years being commercial & twenty odd beforehand as a hobby, I wouldn’t start again and invest in gold.

    Long distance move

We regularly travel from Shropshire to Essex/Kent, usually around seventy at a time. We don't change anything, all solid floors with roofs on. Lock them in at dusk and travel through the night. We have not bothered with screens up to now, and have been lucky I suppose with breakdowns, last...

    Cleaning plastic excluders

I have a Huge plastic farm sink that I put around fifty in at a time with two bags of soda Crystals and hot water, put a brick on top then leave for two days and hose off with the pressure washer. It's a simple way thats not as nasty as trying to scrub them. To be totally honest, I only payed...

The use of drone foundation pros and cons

I had used drone foundation in supers for many years, but stopped around five years ago. The main reason being, for the amount of foundation we buy per year worker can be sourced far more competitively priced, It's also a proper PIA should they queen appear in a super. I Don't bother with drone...

To bee or not to bee...

I haven't been on holiday for at least ten years, and our wedding plans for next year are being made around the bee season. For us, selling other products other than honey took our focus away from the core business, and what I'm good at. With a good staff, equipment sales, bees etc is possible...

To bee or not to bee...

I know a lot depends upon circumstances, but 200 wasn't sustainable for us. Rent, fuel, wages electric etc did not leave much for a rainy day, let alone further expansion. Now having the three hundred or so is a lot easier, having a few barrels always in stock & a big warming cabinet is a...

To bee or not to bee...

I've done it, twenty two years working for "the major oil company ". Had enough of lining their pockets and being just another number. Strangely, where before the bills stacked up and it all seemed a struggle, being full time means I'm in control and although far from easy, I do sleep...

    Even "good" beesuits have problems

Our S----ty suits have two zips & due to weight of the hood can peel apart the velcro covering the gap where they meet at the back. I have had a couple of stings to my head as a result, but as people say, "no sense no feeling ".

    Jars query

I have never used anything but the BFA 300ml jar for many many years, I used to get them from Wynne jones before I became a member, 12 oz of honey looks fine & don't see the air gap as an issue.
