    New book on Apideas

We received Dan's book last week and for novice queen rearer like us it's fantastic. We have 75 mating box's that are massively under utilised, hopefully this book should help along the way. Well written, good clear pictures, good idea to have a passage on wasp trapping as well, would...

    Honey Super Frames Advice

Maybe that's why we get better averages with commercial boxes, would make sense having consistent spacings with the manley frames.

    Honey Super Frames Advice

I always put any new frames of foundation inbetween drawn frames on castleations as Jenkins mentioned, we use wide spacers on every other frame if there's no castleations fitted, again between drawn comb. Borage is different matter, they get two boxes of either foundation in Hoffman frames, or...

    Attempted Hive Thefts

I agree, best course of action, but consequences have to be considered. Tony Martin wold have probably got away with a slapped wrist had the gun used not been unregistered, and he had not shot the lad in the back. my Firearms officer at the time said jokingly, “ if you shoot somone make sure...

    Solid underfloor entrance

I moved away from mesh floors fourteen years ago. There is still the odd one, mostly old poly floors. We did have one factory site that wanted hives painted in there corporate colours, so we used paradise poly‘s, including they floor. It was quite a windy spot alongside a railway track and...

    Attempted Hive Thefts

It is probably very much leaving yourself open to prosecution should an individual become impaled, whether they had malicious intentions or not, I would not want to test this in a court. An old mate of mine used to have a water bath inside his garage door and a live wire with 240v, which was...

Price of honey jars - up , up , up

We have two re-fill shops with the Lyson heated acrylic tank. We supply tank & honey, they just sell it. Both fill the customers jar for them, both have seen an almost doubling of honey sales since putting the tanks in store. Heating is vital, as one found out over the Christmas break. As...

    Lyson thread size

I removed all the original honey gates on our Lyson tanks and replaced with ball valves. Not the ones supplied by Lyson though, they have a quite small bore, almost halve the tank outlet diameter. I purchased ours from an engineering store in Shrewsbury, the bore when open being the same as the...

Price of honey jars - up , up , up

Also a visual inspection does not always show any fine chips or defects. i would imagine should a claim be made against myself i am pretty sure the glass manufacturer will have a pretty robust mechanism in place to test if the container has been reused. i have put some of the jars I keep for...

    A better vaping torch?

personally I wouldn’t even consider a Gasvap after reading on here, quite clearly needs a lot further investment in the design And development. we have been using a Sublimox for two years and have just recently purchased an Instavap, between the two neither has let us down & both performed...

    Beekeeping Show 25th

I should clean out the shed of supers, a load of cheap mattresses and sorted, £10 for the night. Already have a decent sound system, hog roast and a few beers, what else would be needed.

    Wood burning stove for garage

My old workshop was 24ft x 22ft with a ceiling height of 12ft. I built a log burner from a 47kg gas bottle and it was too much on times, I did have a wood stove fan sat on top which really helped distribute the heat.

    Honey with added CBD

I’ve been tempted to try CBD for quite a while having currently been on the waiting list two years for a pain clinic appointment. Random D & R testing in work puts me off, its ridicules that opioids are ok as prescribed, but any hint of cannabis would lead to dismissal and probably loss of...

    Sublimox help

My apprentice has apparently purchased one for us today. It might be worth dropping Duncan an email as they do have quite a few of the battery types already on the shelf. I use Milwaukee & it should be with us on Wednesday. No show discount apparently, it is what it is.

Fogger v Vaporization with Gas Vape

Don't be cheap, get a sublimox or similar. I'm by far not the quickest on my feet at the moment as the biological med has stopped working, but still managed to vape 87 colonies on four sites yesterday, on my own, I've paid for it today though. one & only major criticism of the machine, is...

    Blowers or patience?

As already mentioned, We put boards on evening before removing supers, wheelie bin liner over the top as quite a few boxs have holes. The aim is to start removing at dawn following day, blower is back up as there's always stragglers.
