    Air source heat pumps

Yes, soon after ASHPumps come in about 10 years ago we were visited by a pair of salesmen who tried to persuade us that our dwelling would be ideal - despite the fact that our property is 600 years old, of wattle and daub construction, and inevitably poorly insulated....... BTW, at least it is...

    Your streamlining tips?

To free-up bee time my best decision was to retire from full time work age 60 and P/T work age 72 - but I realise that's not an option for many folk.:)

    Cheap 25 kg Sugar

50+ years of marriage has taught me that invert syrup is best for a quiet life eg via Suffolk BKA bulk purchase;)

    Wintering bees in the U.K.

'Ramming in' the bees seems at odds with 'double brood'- unless you have remarkably populous colonies. Remembering that the bee population is likely to dwindle over winter, will there be enough bees come February to maintain a viable temperature within the hive?

North Korea joins invasion of Europe's' biggest honey producer

It interests me as an atheist and qualified in biological sciences, that mankind has evolved into societies which have become tribal characterised by mutual aggression led by power-hungry dictators. Survival of the fittest is the obvious explanation but what a shame that Darwinian evolution...

    National Surveillance Scheme

That's a bit scary. I wonder if their testing can differentiate between Apibioxal and generic OA?

What to do with old brood frames full of honey

:iagree:- as a retired medic too. I sometimes read that after extracting honey the empty frames should be returned to the same box and the same hive so as to avoid cross infection. Contrary-wise, another time I read the recommendation to swap brood frame(s) from one hive to another eg test frame...

    Dumb meter, dumb company

I'm a complete technophobe so don't understand MHz, SMETS2 etc etc. All I can say is that OVO installed our meter a few years ago. It does its job and there have been no problems:)

    Buying first hives

I agree Manleys are the best design for supers - self spacing and easier to uncap. I used them for 25 years in Langstroth hives. However when I moved to Suffolk I changed to National hives and bought a 9-frame radial extractor from Thorne's. This machine will not accommodate nine Manleys, only...

    Delay introduction of bought queen?

As per JBM, I don't bother to remove the attendant workers from the travel cage. However when I introduce the cage I don't remove the tab which covers the fondant but return a day or two later to remove it. Gives the hive bees more time to get acquainted.

    Niche beekeeping rant

:ROFLMAO: minion | ˈmɪnjən | noun a follower or underling of a powerful person, especially a servile or unimportant one: he gets oppressed minions like me to fob them off.
