Is not removing the QX a big risk?

You can just shake all the bees into the brood box from the super before replacing the QE - an empty super on top of the brood box helps as a "funnel" - that way you know she is below the QE.

Is not removing the QX a big risk?

I've forgotten to remove the QE a couple of times and got away with it because the brood box had plenty of stores. The risk is that either the cluster will move up through the QE leaving the Q behind, or more likely they will stay with her and not move up to the stores, and starve if stores...

    Oxalic acid

A while!! Say 100 hives Generous 3g per hive Generous 5 vapes per year 100x3gx5=1500g 25÷1,5=16.66 So enough for 16 years of bee farming! Assuming it's stable & doesn't degrade (I think it is). Obviously if you only have 10 hives then enough for over 160 years!

    Should I combine?

You could also clad your wooden nuc with wingspan or similar rather than putting it in a brood box.

    Labels

Avery type labels Can be printed on a normal domestic i kjet printer, but you are limited as to shape. I use Maismores, they are obliging if you want to vary a bit from a standard label - eg I skip the bbe and lot number and add it with a tiny avery label, that way I can buy a decent amount at a...

    thick bees

Leave it under the crown board once you have finished feeding so they can read it. We could have a petition for it to be printed on soft paper.

Yes, but  hopefully not of establishment. Time will tell!

It remains to be seen whether vv can get established here, my betting would be "yes" for the far south at least, further north hopefully not!

    Hivebeat monitor

I'd be interested if it produced a frequency spectrum of in-hive noise. It does say it detects movement. I also wonder how it stands up to OA.

    Oxalic Acid

If half supported it then at £35000 it would take £35 each (for starters), sadly I don't see it happening, though I am a bit interested.

    Oxalic Acid

When they realise strawberries are high in oxalic acid Wimbledon will have to get a poisons licence!

    Oxalic Acid

Bleach not so bad as strong acids, caustic pretty awful.

    Oxalic Acid

Makes you wonder how long caustic soda will be allowed to be sold (strong alkali), much more hazardous to handle than OA!

Duration of Oxalic Acid on Bees

Done it once to populate a TBH from my national. The frames with brood & stores went to make a very full single brood into double.

    Honey room waste water

I was extracting today and was aware on clean up that some small flakes of wax were going down the sink, there was more on the new "Garry" uncapper rollers so I put a strainer in the sink plughole and gathered quite a bit of wax. Well worth doing but you need one with a fine mesh.

    Privet hedges or specimen shrubs/trees

I read somewhere that privet is mildly toxic to bees, though I've also seen them happily foraging on it. Not much good for bees but I have a bay hedge which is lovely, and we're never short of bay leaves!
