    Dumb meter, dumb company

I bet they replace with a meter that has been removed to fit a smart meter rather than a new one, so the "end of life" thing could still happen. That said most of the more extreme end of this thread is dealt with by my approach of "Don't attribute to malevolence that which can be easily...

    Thanks, I'll have a look.

    Dumb meter, dumb company

I have had one fitted at home recently to access ev tariffs (though not done yet). I'm lucky enough to have a tiny holiday home & have had endless contacts from Eon to get a smartmeter fitted there. When I finally agreed they failed to turn up! It'll be a while until I bother again if ever!

Can I ask what/who's tariffs those are?

It's reassuring that syrup is spotted - i guess the Chinese "adulterers" have other tricks! In fact I've read you can buy syrup from some Chinese suppliers specifically advertised as not being detected on testing 😡

    Dumb meter, dumb company

There is a second longer range communication system they can install which doesn't use cellular phone systems, but the engineer i had didn't seem to be aware of it! 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️ To my surprise, despite thick stone walls, the standard unit worked!

We just need them on Eastenders and Coronation Street now!

Though it must take less "evaporation space", and thus leave more brooding space, the more concentrated it is. I'm currently feeding back a couple of buckets of 24% water "honey".

    Oxalic acid

Correct. The water molecules are part of the crystal structure, and the anhydrous version has a different structure.

Stacking plastic buckets - how high?

That's very helpful, thank you. I'd had a look for that sort of info unsuccessfully. I'll probably stick to 3 high unless they aren't properly full 👍

    Thin to thick

I've done 2kg per litre and only had a very small amount of crystallisation after standing for some time (weeks I think)

Oops - misread! 🤦‍♂️ Ironically the American "imperial" version of 1:1 would be the same as the metric! 🤔

    Thin to thick

I think that's an American pint, which would make a uk pint weigh about 1.25 pounds

    Oxalic acid

    Apart from anhydrous oxalic acid

Stacking plastic buckets - how high?

I use 10 litre plastic buckets which end up with 10-14Kg of honey in each. I'm a bit wary of stacking them too high in case the bottom one can't take the weight, so try to stick to only two high but it takes a lot of floor space. Has anyone had a problem with stacking higher?

Turns out "Maths" isn't just what tramps drink! 😁

    Thin to thick

Actually looking back at my maths you must have 4.4kg total in your 3.5litres so adding 1.8kg will already be 6.2kg. If you wanted it exact you could add a further 2kg sugar on top of the 1.8 to total 6kg sugar, then top up to 9kg with water. Having said that I'd just chuck another kilo in and...

    Thin to thick

    He has 3.5litres not 3.5kg
  19. S

    Thin to thick

not a very straightforward calculation as volumes and densities change. Also depends what you mean by thin and thick, some use pounds per pint and some kilos per litre. If you started with 1litre water to 1kg sugar (which is what I use) an want to make it 1litre to 2kg sugar then:- 1kg sugar in...

Is not removing the QX a big risk?

Obviously if you spot her in the brood box you don't need to shake them, so worth looking first!
