    Frame wire and brass rivets

I find abelo's wire best for the price (its worth getting good wire) but eyelets I just get Chinese ones cheap.

    Honey price

Duw Duw, embarrassment! I have nigh on 1000 supers and uncap with an electric knife into a plastic tray. I've looked at various machines and I'm not quite sold yet. I lnow of a 1000 colony operation not too far away where their multitude of supers get scratched by uncapping forks by the staff...

    EFB

Yes, this infuriates me and also leaves me feeling pompous every time I feel obliged to point out the bad practice, but its one of the most self centred and thoughtless acts you can do in beekeeping and should be near top of the list for education. I lost several hives at the end of the last...

    Stimulative feeding

I reckon this is the best bang for your buck for pollen sups in west Wales, can't really speak for other locations.

Hi I live in Brittany France.

Not heard of honey being dumped in the harbour but I have seen a photo of a beekeeper taking a massive stack of manuka honey supers by horse and cart down to a river to wash out the honey so the combs were ready to be filled with clover honey which there was an international market for at the...

    Record year?

I've already extracted over six tonnes of 2022 honey~500kg osr, ~1500kg may blossom, ~4000kg summer honey- and there's over a hundred supers cleared waiting for extracting and hundreds of supers yet to collect. This blows my previous best crop out of the water, but I've got more hives than...

    Drone Culling for Varroa Control

As with most things beekeeping its so multifactorial and nuanced its difficult to describe, I thought disconbobulated was a fair summary of the increased nervousness and agitation and general lack of bounce I believe I detected when compared to controls

    Drone Culling for Varroa Control

Drone culling definitely upsets colonies and any benefits are far outweighed by this imho

    Sunken brood cappings - overheated?

I would change the queen and treat for varroa if you're going going to boost them with a frame of emerging brood, bit of a waste otherwise imho

    Sunken brood cappings - overheated?

Looks like a failing queen to me

    Gwenyn Gruffydd Welsh black bees

I believe he gets the nucs fait accompli from a local source rather than making them up with bought in queens for the Welsh blacks he offers.

    Late Split

Quite a few of my customers get queens now to make increase after harvest

    Uncapping knife versus uncapping fork.

Same, I'm into our sixth ton of honey this season uncapped with the heated knife and scraper, a few more to go!

    What would you do ?

Its not too late for virgins to get mated for another few weeks or so(where I am at least), but a mated queen would be a better bet than one from an emergency cell imho

    Supers weights

I used have a universal 9 frame, the trick with manleys is to fill the outside two of each three then the middle one will wiggle in.

    Supers weights

Same, some bloody heavy supers coming in this season, many of my hives are totally plugged out. Buy your new buckets quick because I've got another 800 supers ish to extract!

Amm / Native Black Bee Discussion

Thought I'd drop a few photos of summer on the bee farm here, all my bees are teifi valley natives😍

    Colonies building up for winter

Maybe a touch more, I'd go about half a gallon, which I think is about 2.5L ? ish

    Colonies building up for winter

Once a week should be sufficient to keep the queen interested, well done on the varroa front, reading that its probably safe to assume they arent the problem- yet!
