    CBPV?

Do not shake out. Just remove the floor. JBM started an excellent post on here about treating CBPV a year or two ago.

    Bird Feet

Some sort of raptor... I guess it could be a male sparrowhawk or similar, hence the grey feathers.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I'm seeing some colonies making swarm preps now that hadn't earlier. Checked 14 colonies today, decided to leave three others alone as they *should* have plenty of space. The double brood colony at my parents I put a fourth shallow on as the heather begins although afterwards a few of the...

    Hmmm. Not happy

Is it possible something has pushed the top and the top boxes and lid rolled off, with the lid halting first and the top box doing a full rotation, shedding contents on the way? I would imagine it is unlikely but possible if say, a deer was rubbing the velvet from their antlers (probably the...

One of our BKA members has a problem

Should work. Birds generally can't taste capsaicin (spicy flavours) due to lack of the correct receptor but mammals can.

One of our BKA members has a problem

A shepherd friend of mine local has had an issue with magpies in one particular field in late summer for the last few years- this particular family of magpies has worked out that they can sit on the back of his rams and peck at them, literally eating a hole into their backs.

One of our BKA members has a problem

Most of us don't want to kill everything, just specific individuals which become pests. It's better than being either one of these morons who want to kill everything or one of these ultra morons who don't understand ecology and seem to think the world is a Disney film. For the corvid above...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Copious might suggest swarming rather than supercession?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Applied to join the BFA. Time will tell. Supervised the uni project inspections, heading in the right direction. They have gone from starting with two colonies to four, without confirmation of two mated queens in the last week or so. A few minor hiccups but great involvement from people. Off...

    Heather predictions this year

Heather beetle? Or a fungus if really wet?

    Heather predictions this year

Heather management down south seems to be truly abysmal compared to in the Dales. Will be interested to know what you find out

What did you do in the Apiary today?

It was indeed! Flow sounds better near you than it is here. It is lovely down there though!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Made a nuc and gave a recently collected swarm more space. Boiling even in ventilated suit. Gave up shortly after and went to the beach for the evening after the school run. Sea was lovely and had a seaweed fight with my girls but now smell of a particular seaweed which smells like the sea weed...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Changed queens on a number of hives. I dislike dispatching productive queens but had a few whose offspring seemed to be getting progressively tetchier and have decided its just not worth it.

Do you have horizontally wired frames?

Custom table runners for village show

Could you attach fishing weights to the corners?

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Its ridiculous and not even backed up by the science - studies are mixed and most of the reasons and 'facts' they gave were utter tripe. There are plenty of beekeepers in the area so there will be honey bees there anyway. Perhaps one although not ideal (although downhill!) but I can think of...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Found I can't put some hives on the fantastic heather on a local training areas because they're managed by the local wildlife trust who are trotting out some twaddle about it threatening native pollinators. Hacked off.
