What did you do in the Apiary today?

@Superlativesoul I moved away from Apiguard as I found my bees didn't get on with it but experienced nothing like that. It's worth remembering that there are thousands up and down the country using Apiguard with no issues so whilst it's possible this is an adverse reaction or bad batch, there...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I'm just really behind schedule this year. I usually get done early apart from the heather and sit there feeling smug. At least today is definitely an extracting day. Wife away and torrential rain.

Is it time to harvest the honey in the UK?

I'm halfway through extracting and seriously behind relative to most years. Unless you're planning on getting ivy honey, I would advise yes, you should be extracting and varroa Tx. etc..

    Getting old

    Rigor not vigour.

    Paynes sale query

Wait to hear from them but it's entirely possible the inventory didn't exactly match their stock.

    Fondant v syrup

    I forget, is is 1:2 or 2:1 and water:sugar or sugar:water. ;)

Just for some fun.... an excuse to smile.

Around the time I posted that above as I liked a post then added a post of my own around the same time. I was rather shocked as it felt like censorship. Not had it since.

    Niche beekeeping rant

    Despicable. ;)

    Paynes, closing?!

I think the BS one cost less than that but obviously there's the nuc mould plus nuc extension plus all the hive ones (for Paynes) so it will likely add up. 40k for a single mould is in excess of what a single mould is likely to have cost them based on the ballpark overall figure I've heard for all.

    Paynes, closing?!

They're planning on selling all moulds together if possible so it's likely to be a fair whack.

    Cleaning after wax moth.

    Who runs the reserve?

    Niche beekeeping rant

I'm still waiting too but have a similar view - they'll have been swamped.

    Apivar

Surely they ate the stores and then refilled them with fresh honey this season?

    Beesting as autoimmune trigger?

Did the swollen hand cause you a bit of stress/worry? Mechanism is possible to my mind but be wary of presuming that correlation means causation.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Collected 16 shallows for extraction. Sadly with the hive at my parents, one of the three shallows I'd cleared had a hole in I hadn't spotted so the stack was being robbed. Unfortunately this meant the three formerly packed and very heavy shallows could now all be lifted as one. Will see what...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I trod on a bee last night... Somehow got into my shoe while I was wearing it whilst taping up some gaps between extracted shallows...

    Storm damage at Selby BKA

    Great film.

Not a record to be pleased about :(

Agree in general, although those who check less regularly, when they do have disease outbreaks, are likely to have the issues for longer before it is detected and dealt with thus do represent a greater risk of being a reservoir for infection.

    Paynes, closing?!

I've just 'saved' even more... I get the feeling beekeepers are mobbing their website like our bees currently would mob any loose honey.

    Bee sheds or Similar

I'm planning one but too early to say how good it'll be- a few on here may be able to advise @Newbeeneil?
