What did you do in the Apiary today?

Got round three apiaries and about to visit a fourth. One was near a recent EFB outbreak but brood looks good. Made a nuc up, put it in the boot, got halfway home to grab some kit and realised I'd left the entrance disc open... Bees currently orientating in the drive. I'm going to be in trouble...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Seeing pollen, some ivy open, bot not convinced there will be much nectar as it's been pretty dry. Sadly I think today I'll be feeding, was hoping to avoid it this year.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

If it's ivy, wait a few months before eating/selling it. But extract soon!

Equipment Wanted 50 national brood boxes

Seconding this. The boxes do the job.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Got to an apiary I'd not got to for a couple of weeks. A mini mating nuc had starved. A real tragedy as I think I missed it by a couple of days at most. Occasional bee still present but most starved, piles of them and wall to wall brood with a beautiful pattern. Bit rubbish really.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Another market, said bye to the head chef at one client (and got to try some Waygu beef, something I've wanted to try for years), continued with winter preps for hives, now watching Last Night of the Proms.

    Harvest

Spent this week at my day job and evenings until the early hours extracting and jarring. Tonight I've finished 420 jars for one client (had done 99 of those yesterday). Next client's hopefully begins tomorrow! Maybe I'll get to bed before midnight eventually.

Where to find land for Bees 2024

Not everything that the BBKA says is good practice so 'ware with some of those books. There are a number of things which this forum has shared which will make your beekeeping easier, I'm sure @pargyle or @Erichalfbee listed them in a post, about a year ago I think but time flies. I second the...

    Harvest

You and me both! It does feel good when it's over and jarred though.

    Two supers, one hive

I tend to keep each shallow's honey in separate buckets. It's an absolute pain but means I get lots of different honeys and this is a good talking (and selling) point at markets.

Equipment Wanted Newbie looking for 2 national hives

Thorne currently have a sale on. Worth getting seconds quality stuff and building it over the winter.

    Organic varroa treatments

Find out what's in it. In the UK, for a treatment to be licenced it has to have been proven to work through scientific studies. There are other formulations which are not licenced but are repeatable and generally have studies documenting their efficacy. I'd be wary that this product could be...

    Buying first hives

Castellations don't cost much, just add some to your order. However I often use SN1s without and just space them manually.

    Gift Boxes/Baskets

I use Kite e-commerce boxes and pack them with wood wool.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Another day, another market. Managed to not bill one customer for three candles somehow. Thunderstorms around lunchtime put a bit of a dampener on things. Time to unload the car again now...

    Paynes sale query

Received the refund around lunchtime. Received the order around 17:00. Ought to keep me busy for a while...

    Paynes sale query

Nope. Apparently that's my order in full... Although when I go into tracking it suggests that those are still being prepared rather than being refunded so who knows.

    Paynes sale query

Just had an email saying my order has been dispatched. I appear to have got off lightly - the only thing missing is some square tins, sum total £1. Definitely a win on the foundation front! Do wish I'd bought some of their beeswax though.

    Paynes sale query

I still haven't heard anything and have a horrible feeling that everything I've ordered will have gone by the time they get to it. If so it'll be nothing lost, nothing gained and my bank account will be happier.

    Apivar stopping queens laying?

Brood nest is contracting anyway but I found queens wouldn't go near it and would lay on the opposite side of the box to where the Apiguard was if it wasn't central.
