    Unusual uncapped cells?

I had two frames like that. I am convinced it is slug damage, Eaten down to the foundation in small areas or maybe just left as there was slug goo on it.

    Hi, Chris here.

I am getting a similar situation locally. I try and explain to them that they need to change their queens for the good of us all but sadly they just say, I prefer to let my bees do their own thing, which generally means I am too scared to go into the hive. I assisted one person in changing a...

    Swarm

Swarms have two parts. First part about half of a hive will leave with a single older queen to set up home elsewhere, it is their way to reproduce and continue the species. That group will settle in a hedge or on a branch until a few scout bees find a new home. They may stay at this resting...

    Solar Panel Storage Batteries

If you are in the UK you don't get FIT any more. You get SEG. and I would be snatching their hands off at 40p. I got 4p 7 years ago and that was good, I have now come off FIT and sell it back to Octopus at 15p but I still get money on top of that for every KwH generated.

    Supersedure sense check

Just don't believe it lessens the swarming instinct because it doesn't. It just gives you a few more days to do what is needed

Dedicated forum for bee keepers aiming for least intrusive approaches

It would be interesting to know roughly where you are based, a country or part of a country would be good. I too would remove the QE whenever you are next in the bees if you don't want them. Remember that it is all very well having swarms every year but that will double your hive count every...

    Another nasty bee question

If they are only aggressive when you open them and not attacking when you are just nearby I would leave them until spring, I would remove any honey they make and leave them with a single brood box if possible over winter. In spring, if they survive, the queen will be easy to find and kill and...

    Supersedure sense check

You are losing little by putting the old queen in a nuc as insurance.

    Another nasty bee question

So your unite was in July. It takes at least three weeks to replace the flyers let alone the eggs that were layed by the old queen. Be patient. Secondly, why are you inspecting? Just wondered. If she was a new queen then swarm unlikely not impossible. I would consider leaving until the autumn to...

I resorted to Hobbycraft last year, ended up with the 1 LB jars which I dont generally use. I haven't touched them yet but I think I will this year and then put the price up to £7 . That is if I get a surplus of course!
