    Honey in brood chamber

Ok thanks for the tips. How many new frames with foundation can I put in that's manageable for the bees. Thanks

    Honey in brood chamber

The queen is there along with eggs and brood.

    Honey in brood chamber

The honey is uncapped. I'd say there are 4 frames that are nearly all uncapped honey. With very little brood on the periphery. The super I have in there now is mostly foundation but they've drawn quite a bit of it. I'm planning to add another super on Friday. I'm just waiting on foundation to...

    Honey in brood chamber

I inspected the hive a couple of days ago and noticed that there's a lot of honey stored in the brood chamber. I'm assuming this is because I've left it too late to add on another super. I'm worried that the queen doesn't have enough space to lay. I've read that replacing 2-3 frames of honey and...

    Honey

I've been inspecting the hive every 10-14 days to keep an eye out for swarming. Just done so today. All looks well. A few queen cups but non with eggs. Queen is well and laying however there's a lot of drones. I'm assuming this is normal this time of year. I was hoping that a super of honey...

    Queenless

I had a look in the hive today. No queen cells drawn and neither any sign of a queen in the hive. Id like to join this colony with my other but I've noticed bees with chronic bee paralysis virus. Will this spread to my healthy colony if I join them or does it have something to do with them being...

    Queenless

yes. I'll put in a frame tomorrow. If they do build queen cells should I leave them to it or go for a mated queen?

    Queenless

Thanks for the replies. I tried my best to find a queen today but that's probably not a good indicator as I'm useless at spotting a queen. I'll try and get hold of a mated queen asap. (If anyone knows where I can get one in or around London that would be great).

    Queenless

I inspected both my hives today for the fist time this year. I noticed one hive is a little more active than the other but I didnt think much of it. When going through the slightly quieter hive I noticed that there isn't a single egg/larvae/capped brood. Neither is there any drones so no laying...

    When to add supers

Thanks for the advice. Is there generally a time of year when beekeepers add supers or is it down to the situation of each individual hive?

    When to add supers

All seems well with the bees at the moment. Both hives are very active. Bringing in loads of pollen. And as a precaution I added fondant to both hives. I've seen that quite a few trees have started to blossom here in South London so I was wandering when is it advised to remove the fondant and...

Any Beekeepers near SW16 South London willing to sell some fondant

Thanks for all the replies. I've managed to get hold of some fondant.

    That's probably more convenient. Thanks

Any Beekeepers near SW16 South London willing to sell some fondant

I've decided to put some fondant in my two hives just as an insurance policy. Been going around Streatham asking all the bakers if they have any fondant for sale. No luck unfortunately and I've read that the Tesco stuff us no good for the bees. Are there any beekeepers near SW16 willing to sell...

    Spring feeding

    Spring feeding

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll put some fondant in just to be safe.

    Spring feeding

This is my first winter as a beekeeper, I've got two hives and so far so good, I think. Both hives were very active over the last couple of days, especially Sunday. Ive been hefting the hives over the winter, today I noticed that they are getting lighter so I thought it might be a good idea to...

    Autumn feed

One of the two hives has decent stores, however the other one was a nuc we bought late july and they havent gathered enough stores yet. Both hives are currently being treated with bayvorral. To confirm is that 2 parts sugar to 1 part water?

    Autumn feed

I'm feeding my two hives on sugar syrup as I was told to do so by an experienced bee keeper until the weather significantly changes. They're being fed in 4 pint rapid feeders. Sugar syrup made with 1kg of sugar with a 1:1 ratio is lasting them a couple of days. I'm thinking it's going to be...

    Where do drones go?

This might be a silly question, but I've noticed quite a few drones going and returning to hive, what do they get up to?
