    Thanks for that. I thought it was the lead in the zinc well that was what was concerning me, althought not planing to sell any honey yet only first year, I think starting out right has got to be the way to go. so plastic or SS it is.

    Thanks for advise, Floundering with this hive, it's been a problem from day one. They only superceded/swarmed at the begining of July! May be should have left well alone,but too late now, tomorrow will take a look inside, and see what if anything is left. I guess I haven't got my head round QC...

    Thanks, that particular hive has a very small landing board and with in being quite large active colony and a small entrance due to wasps they might try to get in from underneath, shall have to enlarge landing board. thanks again.

    we were hoping to to plug entrance after dark and move to new apiary and unplug so when they come out in morning they are in there new home.

    They are all on OMF ist just over 4 miles as the crow flys (Bee flys) about 7 miles by road we have the capasity to move all four in one go, we were going to remove crown board and roof and put a mesh top on the hive to stop over heating while in transit.Thanks
