How can I keep a swarm

Anyone tried sticking in one of those swarm lures? Picked up a swarm tonight, getting too late to start pulling brood and no olf frames handy. Thinking on my feet, rthought I would use the lure I bought at Stoneleigh (dont ask me why). I just know one of you guys are going to tell me they will...

    Reactions to stings

Those of you who have bad reactions, (NOT true anaphylaxsis) might consider taking antihistamine tablet BEFORE an inspection, should reduce the reactions. Those who have full anaphylaxsis, dont take the risk. Buzz

    new beekeeper help needed

you need to look for queen cells. You talk about queen cups, I assume you mean "play cups". The question is are they making swarm cells or not? Queens slim down and stop laying shortly before swarming, so establish the issue re queen cells. It would be helpful to know how many frames of brood...

OSR honey and how to deal with it

Sick of OSR! Bit of a moan (sorry guys): My bees are on a fruit farm, lots of early pollen, great. But, just as the apple comes into blosom, so does the OSR! Not much anyone can do about that, but they fill the BB with the stuff, it granulates and then the frames are no good. Would love to...

Exhausted Queen back from mating flight?

The pics are not the best, I'll see if any of the others are any better. Re the gloves: I had a mind on posting on the forum, so thought best for the pic. That said, I've had more stings when looking at my apiary than when manipulating, etc. But I take your point.

Exhausted Queen back from mating flight?

So, I put a mini nuc in the garden a few days ago, with capped Q cell. Today found her on the floor a few feet away surrounded by her courteyers. Popped her back into the mini. Lets see if she had done the neccessary? Worth remembering to make mating nucs enterances easy to get to for poor...

    Quick requeen question

quite agree, why would you go to the bother of knocking down the Q cells just to purposefully leave the bees the perfect reason to swarm. the thing to do I would have thought would be to make sure you leave a single viable cell. Dave

The time has come at last

I remember when i got my first nuc, 3 years ago. Picked them up at about 9pm. When I got home and put them in position it was dark and quiet. All I could hear was the buzz from the nuc box after being in the boot of the car for 1/2 an hour. when I eventially went to bed all I could hear was the...
