    Argument decider.

Can you please help to sort out a differing of opinion. My beekeeping buddy, who has more experience than me, is of the opinion that as the weather is warming up to double figures, he should start to feed his hives with 2x1 syrup. I have said that I think it is still a little too early and...

    Commercial Hive Question

I will hang on to the National as the Commercial is just an experiment really to see how it goes and I have about four other National hives. I too thought that Spring would be the natural time to do it but I'm far from being an expert in these matters. Thanks for your reply

    Commercial Hive Question

Good morning folks, I would like to pick your collective brains. I have just acquired a second hand commercial hive together with drawn frames from a trusted source so I am as happy as one can be that it is disease free. I have one colony that is currently on brood and a half and very strong...

    Advice re splitting colony.

I help out a friend of mine who has been a beekeeper for over 20 years now, sadly he now has a disability which precludes him from manipulating the frames but he has far more experience than I ever will gain. Hi Heather, Interesting. Out our local BBKA meeting last week the topic of wax moth came up, specifically relating to storage of supers and brood frames over the winter period. Well, having temporarily given up beekeeping whilst I lived in France for eighteen months, I started up again this spring with eager anticipation. My first nucleus failed, it turned out to be queeless and had chalkbrood but that's another story. The beek that gave it to me thought it was viable...

    Thymol Crystals

Hi, Some years ago I managed to purchase some thymol crystals from my local pharmacy, sadly they no longer stock it nor does any other pharmacy in my area or herbalist. Does anyone know of a good source, I don't want to purchase a huge quantity, just enough for making up Hivemakers Thymolated...

    Any ideas?

There is definitely no queen, she was well marked and saw her dead on the bottom of the mesh floor with a mass of other dead bees which I emptied out. It's a mystery to me but thanks for the replies.

    Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. No shiny bees, they are also still active bringing in pollen and nectar. They are sealing the eggs as normal and raising the brood as workers.

    Any ideas?

I have been keeping bees for about five years in total so consider myself as a novice still. As the result of domestic circumstances I had to give up beekeeping for about eighteen months and started up again from scratch this spring. I was fortunate to be given a split which contained a good...
