    Not treating varroa

I use honey to give to my splits at the moment in the frame so I only have a few hives that I use to produce it. All the others I use to draw frames and produce splits. I want to expand not produce honey on mass but my bees produce a lot. I just use them to get what I want

    Not treating varroa

Its a good supplemental income. Apiguards not a big cost but its the biggest cost I pay for treatment of my bees is what I mean. If your making £1000 per hive your doing a damn site better than I am

    Not treating varroa

30 hives can bring in some pretty good income nowadays. I don't know about back then because I wasn't even thinking about bees or income. Treating a hive costs pennies nowadays though if you vape em as you know. The most expensive treatment I buy is Apiguard but I buy it in bulk when I get money...

    Not treating varroa

As much as I like pulling peoples legs and acting the clown leaving people guessing as to I'm serious or not Ill try to be serious as I can here and add my 2 cents. I treat for Varroa because I cant afford not to and I don't think I have enough hives to risk them. If I had a surplus of hives I...

    Feeding with a super on

The bees will use the honey and draw the frames = 1 extra drawn super. It will cost no bees just gives new bees a job to draw the frames and when drawn it can be placed on top to take advantage of honey flow = 2 drawn supers not 1 drawn super. It takes time and honey to make drawn frames. Bees...

    Feeding with a super on

leave it put a queen excluder on top put your brood box on top and wait. Take each frame off as they empty it and add a blank. If they don't take it Ill be surprised and they could draw out the blanks

    Bee farmers ahoy!

I mark my best breeder queens with red and leave the others unless I'm selling them. If I buy a queen they are numbered from my breeder so I know. Usually the year after buying one my purchased breeder queens lose the number so I mark them red. I also keep detailed records of where a queen came...

    Lack of stores in March

I requeen because I was told to and given advice that made sense to me and I didn't insulate to compare results. I don't keep bees not adapted to our climate because the Buckfast was developed in our climate to improve on the survivors of the last huge outbreak of something that almost totally...

    Lack of stores in March

I didn't insulate my hives this time but did the year before , I've had about the same percentage in loss but this winter was warmer. I'm hoping I get the rest through. Hopefully we don't get a hard freeze because I wouldn't bet on any weather and they have a fair amount of brood

    Expense

I know and less and less people consume honey in its raw form as well

    Expense

That's why I stopped using fondant at £3.80 each it gets expensive even with a few hives. My first hive cost me over £500 to buy and I even contemplated a flow hive

    Expense

Yes I have lost 4 hives no I didn't say I didn't lose any I said I didn't lose any of the 4 I split from the hive your talking about, and said it in a response and yes I still have that little extractor and you can put a motor on it, and no I don't expect to extract 100 hives worth of honey with...

    Expense

I know sugar is 50p a kg and if you put 10kg on 100 hives that's £500 or 3 splits

All survived from one of the hives I split at that time into 4 keep up with the comments if you want to shoot me down. Look at the date I joined and the date now do you think I had one hive last year?
