    How long to feed?

I know it's late in the year, but I had a swarm arrive in a home made bait hive I had in a tree in my garden last week during the nice weather we had (has 7 national brood frames in it). Only one drawn frame in it before they came. Moved it down from the tree and 3 ft across to the corner of my...

    Ivy Bees

Ahh I see... Perhaps I should have read about them first 😀. Would honeybees live underground? It's sort of a very small embankment/edge of a road, not a busy road. They do look very tiny in comparison to honeybees I have seen.

    Ivy Bees

I think there are some near me...can't get a picture they're too fast for my phone. But here is a colony of very small looking bees. Noticed them yesterday and just took a short video clip of them. Seems very active. Too small to be honeybees but look like honeybees. How do I upload a short...

    Re-queen question

I got her from someone who was re-queening hives. Put in the hive last night, suspended between frames in a small plastic cage. Released this morning. Didn't witness any aggression, not that was obvious to me anyway. Bees just seemed to be accepting of her. It's just a last chance saloon attempt...

    Re-queen question

Just a quick question... If a queenless hive is given a laying queen and she is readily accepted, should the queen start to lay near enough straight away, or will she need a little time to adjust to a new colony before she starts to lay? Hive has been queenless for a number of weeks, no eggs or...

Looking for a mated Q - not fussy!!

Tried again... It now says you have either chosen to not receive or cannot receive PM's!! Never mind!! I was just thanking you for telling me you still have queens available. I was only looking for an old or obsolete queen, and hopefully have one lined up for the end of next week. Thanks again...

Queenless ... Again :( . Anyone local have a spare?

Makes me feel better that it isn't just me losing them (not meant in a selfish way, even though it does sound like that!).

Looking for a mated Q - not fussy!!

I think to raise a queen and get her laying, it would be knocking on towards October... Too late me thinks!! The weather here in October is not usually so good. It hasn't been good as it is this year anyway. Sorted now thank you.

    PM'd Eyeman :) thank you

Queenless ... Again :( . Anyone local have a spare?

It isn't the biggest of colonies to be fair, about 5 frames or so, so was easy to go through it. I would try any queen to be honest. I definitely do not want to waste a good queen, just thought someone may have an old one lying around :) It's just a stab in the dark really before it gets too...

Queenless ... Again :( . Anyone local have a spare?

It's just a final attempt at possibly saving my colony. Long story, saw the queen on the front of the hive over 3 weeks ago, apparently back from a mating flight. Checked today to see progression and no queen, no eggs, no larvae, don't know what went wrong :( Anyway, if there is someone local...

    Best time to shake?

It is. I purposely placed the large colony about 4 feet away from the hive. I will be moving the large colony about 18 inches closer to the other hive when I shake out, then next week will transfer all frames back into the national.

    Best time to shake?

I was advised by someone on the forum that as there are so few bees a shake out would be the easiest way forward. As it happens, that's the best way forward for me anyway as the hive isn't compatible with the home made hive the large colony are in. Therefore, my intention is to shake out, then...
