Hi all,
Very sadly I got a text from a next door neighbour saying that they had lost patience living with a honeybee nest in the roof and had called out a pest controller, who has dealt with it via an aerosol-type insecticide spray.
I don’t really understand how these insecticide aerosols...
Thanks Emyr! Do you have any preference which way round you do the unite; i.e. Q+ on top or bottom? I'm just a bit spooked having seen it go wrong so recently! To be fair, it never had before...
Hello all,
I'm in a bit of a predicament. I attempted to unite 2 smallish colonies (on 6 frames each) together last Tuesday. I did it via dispatching the older queen and the newspaper method. Unfortunately, having just gone in to sort the two boxes out, it seems that something has gone wrong...
Hemo,
Please cf. what I said in a post on the main forum:
So for the first time in a while I've been around to inspect three colonies which my dad largely looks after. It's all a bit complex but the crux of it is that all three of them are broodless/ eggless. Dad told me that Hive 1 had...
Got one from a friend who had just been visited by bee inspector. On opening up
one of the hives to pop a section in I find a young looking queen with a big fat abdomen so hopefully that’s all good!
Hi all,
Would anyone in the East Sussex area be able to sell me three frames of open brood to use as test frames? ASAP. I'm in a bit of a predicament. Name your price!
Ben
Hi all,
So for the first time in a while I've been around to inspect three colonies which my dad largely looks after. It's all a bit complex but the crux of it is that all three of them are broodless/ eggless. Dad told me that Hive 1 had swarmed on Thursday (he could not catch the swarm)...
The other day I was helping out a supposedly quite experienced beekeeper on an OMF set up, who wouldn’t let me tell him he was wasting his and his bees’ time scraping off the propolis that covered the annoying mesh things he’d whacked on the feed holes. ‘They need air flow’ I think were his...
Yeah I was going to use it last season but had a few tins of apiguard which wanted using. This year will defo switch though as I never get myself organised enough to treat and feed separately, and cannot be doing with comb-filled ekes again!
Well there’s myself and another experienced beekeeper running the show. Supervising 10-15 kids. To start with, due to social distancing requirements and their lack of experience, they will be mostly suiting up and watching.
One of mine had a tiny bit of brood in which made it particularly unpleasant.
The original error was a classic case of post extraction, feeding, treatment etc. cba to open up hives in October, done with the beekeeping season, next year’s problem! Kinda knew I’d have a mess to sort before I got...
My spare suit is one of those Simon the beekeeper ones; it's a spare because of the chin-related problems mentioned above. I wonder whether the round ones might be better shout.
