Simon the beekeeper closing down sale

I wouldn't imagine it's an easy business and from my experience STB has always been excellent. Maybe its a matter of quitting whilst I'm ahead and enjoying retirement. Let's be honest, people's pockets are being squeezed and I'm sure this will be more noticeable this year when rising day to day...

    What a disaster

So, I was doing a final check on my nucleus hives today. What a complete hash I made of it. Couldn't find the queen in one so thought I'd give it a second go, still no queen but saw a few eggs so thought ok, leave it alone, give it a tidy up and stick the lid on. The feking lid wasn't going down...

Advice on moving nucs to new apiary

Yeah, kind of what I thought to be honest Jeff, just thought I'd double check. I was told I couldn't split within a couple of meters of a hive, but when I had no other option I did it three times and each time worked, not that I'm saying it's the correct thing to do. Thanks anyway Jeff, much...

Advice on moving nucs to new apiary

Unfortunately, this week. I thought I may be able to hold off for a few weeks, but that's no longer an option.

Advice on moving nucs to new apiary

Hi all, just looking for a little advice or suggestions. I have no option but to move 12 nucs I'm overwintering to another location. Unfortunately, the only location I have is a mile down the road in my new apiary. I hear/see it all the time, if moving bees you should move them 3 miles away...

Starting a one frame nuc. Too late?

Thanks @enrico that was the general rational behind my thinking.

Starting a one frame nuc. Too late?

@Ian123 I would stretch to two. I'm not overly confident on the queen so more an experiment if being totally honest. And I'm taking it from another six frame nuc set up for overwintering that is now five frames full of brood.

Starting a one frame nuc. Too late?

So just putting it out as a general ask. Considering starting off a one frame nuc for overwintering. A full frame of brood and full frame of stores due to having a spare queen. Too late as just entering August?

    Honey Bound Nuc "Advice wanted!"

I was but I've stopped now due to all frames been loaded

    Honey Bound Nuc "Advice wanted!"

Hey @Erichalfbee, there lies the problem. Its only half full of bees, maybe a little over. I'm guessing due to the mated queen taking taking so long to be released they just filled the brood frames with stores?? All six frames have been drawn and completely filled with stores literally no room...

    Honey Bound Nuc "Advice wanted!"

Ah thanks @Erichalfbee I'd have loved to have had already drawn frames but had to go with foundation. Out of interest, why wouldn't you advise changing three frames. It's a six frame nuc from BS Honey. Essentially I'm still left now with four full frames of syrup/nector/honey/stores and only...
