No varroa in wild bee brood

I would be interested in the cell size of the brood comb it you still have it, if you could find the smallest group of cells and measure across ten of them Thanks Tony

Opinion on Plastic Frames & Foundation

About five six years ago I brought 20 frames of Prema comb ready drawn out plastic, The interest at the time for me was to regress my bees to a smaller cell and this was prefect as it was around 5.00mm in its standard form, once dip in hot wax it got me nearer to the 4.9mm that I was looking...

    Sugar water???

I all ways use a smoker even when checking a apiary site with say 10 or 15 nucs in, I position the smoker in such a way that just a little smoke drifts across the top of the frames every now and then but doesn’t make the bees run and hide, but it is there if a very strong hive has a of day...

    National Nucs

Good to meet you Tony ---------------------------------- Like wise Martin, I am sure they are in good hands, as I said expand the brood box with one frame at a time and try not to put them under to much stress, Has your 4.9mm wax come yet? Regards Tony

Is it me or has it gone 'swarm mad'?

I use a old national brood box with drawn out frames and it has worked well, I wait until I can see the bees cleaning out the old frames which is a good sign they will stay and then local them on the new site and transfer them and the frames into the new home. Regards Tony

Is it me or has it gone 'swarm mad'?

What gave me the final push to start up bee keeping was a swarm that flew over my work truck some years ago , I am glad to see lots of new beginners’ starting up and the more the better, if that means more swarms to pick up then so be it and if any of them swarms make it as feral I see that...

    direction of the frames

I have always run my hives the cold way but I don’t think it makes a lot of differences and I like to work my hives from the side.

    has the rush slowed down

I hope the bubble hasn’t bust, the more beginners that start up the better, and honey produced from hobby beekeepers should command a good price, especially the one's that don’t contaminate there early flow from last winter’s treatments.

When can I use the super?

Sorry baby bee I was under the impression that you was sitting on a established brood box with plenty of bees, you didn’t give the full picture in your fist post, I just seen your other post and it sound like you are in a bit of a pickle. Take of super and hem the bees in with one spare frame...

When can I use the super?

Get it on as soon as poss , I don’t know your area but down on the south coast I am pulling supers and most have two or three on. If your bees have been on any type of flow they could have back filled the brood box so you best have a look before you add the super and see if they are think about...
