I saw the queen today. I inspected 7 days ago (and also saw the queen) and saw some queen cups but nothing built up or layed in. They looked like play cups at that time.
Hi,
I installed an overwintered nuc (bought from BS Honey Bees) in its new hive about 14 days ago.
I inspected today and discovered that they have drawnout about 3.5 new frames. I saw BIAS and found the queen.
On the first newly drawn there were a cluster of queen cups in the centre of the...
I’m in my first year of beekeeping; can I check that I am not making a stupid mistake?
I have two colonies. Where I am in Cumbria June and early July have been something of a wash out (lots of rain and a temperature hovering around 14c). On inspection each colony has had a continuing reduction...
Last week I added a super to a hive which started as a nuc. All frames were drawn out and the brood box seemed full. It is a national hive with bottom bee space. I added a wire framed QE below the super with the bee space down. This morning I have inspected and found that the bees seem to be...

Just to update you: I requeened two days after receiving your advice. I am pleased to say that when I inspected today I saw the attached brood pattern and am delighted with how much more healthy it is.
Many thanks indeed to everyone for your help.
It occurs to me that this colony had a drone laying queen and I successfully requeened about 2 weeks ago. There were therefore a lot of drone cells in the brood pattern.

This morning I had a lot of activity at the entrance of a hive with some of the bees being much more aggressive than this colony usually is. When I got closer I could see a lot of drones on the ground outside the hive, many of whom had wings that look odd (to me at least). I attach...
Lots of hawthorn, Berberis (?) in several gardens, Welsh poppies and something (which I cannot trace) giving lots of cream/white pollen that the bees are bringing into the hives here in Cumbria.
Hi,
I inspected one of my hives this morning and was pleased to see that the nuc I installed 2 weeks ago has already drawn out 4 frames of foundation. I’m slightly nervous that the brood pattern contains a lot of drone cells though and wondered if anyone has any comment on the attached photos...
