Yes I agree, was three questions although second one is to do with the same question ;-)
Seems a mixture of answers and people experiencing quite a difference regarding honey this year. I haven't had any swarm cells at all so I'm grateful for that one. New Flow hive is almost capped so that's...
Anyone else finding a honey crop this year not happening?
Spring crop this year didn't happen at all. Had to start feeding a few smaller colonies last week as starvation was taking place. Now all bramble is out I have stopped feeding but have a feeling I won't be getting any even from the larger...
I checked my hives today as not had much chance with weather last week. Same thing, two hives had almost no stores at all. One of the nuc's had lots of dead bees and dead brood where they have given up rearing. Was actually a swarm that moved into a nuc I left on the floor and went to move it...
Sold my old extractor and now looking for a new one. Seems as though I have to be careful which ones take Langstroth frames. Is this correct? Some on the well known selling website are for frames 16cm x 40 and Langstroth are 48cm so just a bit confused now.
Also seen this one...
Well my fault really as started them off with cut out comb strung in some of the frames as I have been changing over from Nationals to Langstroths. They have built all over the place. I cleaned up a bit last inspection but they just went over the top.
Went into a hive today and they had built comb everywhere. Needed to get in brood boxes to check and they had brood in where it should be and honey all round top, crossing through into next frames all along the bottom brood box. Terrible when you have comb dropping off and honey oozing...
Reading through this thread made me think.
Around me and a few other surrounding villages there are bee colonies in peoples chimneys. One being in my next door neighbours house which she said has been there many years and they have never caused her concern so has always left them. One street I...
....and they aren't mine for a change :-)
Both arrived in nucs i put out in two different locations but they never went for the full size empty hives. Watched one arrive this afternoon but loads of fighting which I have seen before and some bees arriving full of pollen so I assume it is an...
I found this.

Maybe I need to increase the insulation in the top super even though it has quite a bit already
It has been a problem with others it seems so not just me
Entrance reducer was on widest setting (approx 4") but been completely off the past week or so now. I will see on next inspection if there is an improvement. I just wondered if others had higher humidity in poly hives as obviously they dont breath like a wooden hive. But wooden hives and crown...
Colony is on double brood and completely full. I have done whats been suggested and opened the entrance. These hives don't have an OMF but two options for vented or non vented. I will see how it is next time I go in and see if crown board is still wet. Same thing with the Poly nuc as noticed wet...
