    honey warming box

    How about building one, construct a box insulated with polystyrene complete with lid but with a shelf to hold the tubs underneath which install a 60w light bulb, the heat from the bulb is enough to warm the honey but not boil it

    Hefting a WBC

    Heft? What is heft? I take it that it means to test the wieght, but my darling girls have propolised all the boxes together, I am not strong enough to lift the whole hive empty let alone full and as it would mean seperating the boxes I might as well look inside, or have I missed the point? Ian

    another newbee tip!

    How about making up a super complete with foundation then putting in a large vacuum bag, like those for storing blankets etc. you then havea complete super shrunk wrapped waiting and ready Ian

    still worried about the queens

    Yes me a newie as well, did an AS on April 28, then a cast was thrown on 16 May and ended in tall tree overhanging stream and not possible to get at, today the 26 May they are still there, just hanging around so as to speak. Any suggestions welcome Ian

    As a newy this year at it being! saw Th*** call about QE , when comparing the plastic one with a zinc replacement the slots are the same dimensions, BUT, the thickness is the difference. Hope that makes sense. Ian

    Do I Wait?

    Am a newey and have been wanting bees for a long time, have built the hives and done a course and am quite keen to get them now, but was thinking about when I am away from late August for 3 / 4 weeks. What would the experts advise? :nature-smiley-016: ps: Based in Cornwall
