    All Queens Dead At Once

We are on a decently forested area interspersed with many open grass areas. It's known to be a particularly 'nature friendly' area with no industry. Swiss cattle are the most active parts of the region. In all, the area is superb for bees with plenty of water and mixed flora. Three of the hives...

    All Queens Dead At Once

Thank you, it's good to learn something new as I had never had this situation before. It certainly relaxes me a bit as I thought I had some new queen bee disease that was infesting the hives. I'll be patient and see what happens. How long do the off-lay periods usually last?

    All Queens Dead At Once

Thanks for the quick reply....I wasn't aware that queen's actually go through periods where they stop laying eggs. Could you tell me more?

    All Queens Dead At Once

Hi everyone. I have five hives in the mountains of Switzerland at around 1200m, and the weather is still amazing, with temps around 10 degrees at night, and in the mid 20s during the day. Despite the apparent bliss, all five of the queen's seem to have disappeared and there is no brood in any of...

    Mycelium and "MycoHoney"

I just read this old post and am curious to know whether anyone has managed to ever get some of this Mycohoney to try out? I can't find anywhere to buy it, does anyone have any ideas on where to find it?

    Colony Transportation

A quick question: I have been offered 4 colonies in Dadant hives and need to go and pick them up next Tuesday. However, the donor has said he can only meet at 2pm and I am wondering how best to keep the bees healthy given that they would likely have been trapped in their respective hives since...

    Warré in Switzerland

That's an excellent bit of craft there, especially the patternings! Is there a source I can tap to maybe copy some plans to build my own eventually? It has long been a yearning of mine to have a bee-hut and I have searched far and wide in Switzerland to maybe buy a traditional one...however they...

    Warré in Switzerland

Superb, that's extremely encouraging, thank you. I love the photos, I am looking forward to stepping into this new realm of methodology (and all the accompanying hiccups that I will be going through). Much appreciated.

    Warré in Switzerland

Hahaha, I love the honesty, and I understand the concern. I should also add that I have been using Dadant and Langstroth for years, and I suspect that my mentor is testing me with the Warré as my next learning chapter. He is 75 now and too frail to really be in the field after a few operations...

    Warré in Switzerland

Hello everyone, I have recently started spending a lot of time in Switzerland for various projects and wanted to use my store of Warré hives that I was given from my mentor. In anticipation of the new bee season next year, my initial inquiries near Zurich and beyond suggest that the Swiss have...
