    Peas and broad beans

Is it to introduce nitrogen from the roots as a natural fertiliser? Just seem to remember something from crop rotation theory.

    Post your 2013 swarm photos

Well following a thoroughly? wet year last year and a very cold long winter, my two hives were sadly neglegted towards the back end of last year, plenty of food in there but I just couldn't find a dry day or two to do the necessary. So they stayed complete with full supers and an insulation...

    Little bird?

I can't recall having heard or seen a Yellowhammer around here over the twenty years I've been here, but perhaps because of the crops that were left in the fields last year I thought there may be a chance of them being seen. The last one that I heard or saw was in in Pembrokeshire around St...

    Little bird?

It's a whole ring. no markings on it. I've done a bit of searching tonight and come up with not a lot other than captive birds generally have a plain ring just for identification purposes. I'd be amazed if it was a canary! Perhaps it's a cross breed. I have to admit to being amazed at how...

    Little bird?

I can't see any numbers on the ring, so perhaps it's a male/female or year identifier from a particular colony.

    Little bird?

Just found this on the side of the main road near me. It's quite small and very yellow and of course dead! It's quite obviously a finch of some sort but it is so yellow. Strange that it has plain red ring on its leg. Anybody know what it is?

    Hedghogs suffering?

Thanks for your comments. That was the general idea behind the circular. The two hogs that I have picked up over the last couple of weeks were probably just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak. There must be quite a few more that havn't been found around here. I'll find out where it's coming from.

    Hedghogs suffering?

Hhmmm! This last one didn't survive! It was in the Hedgehog rescue http://hedgehogcare.co.uk/ It didn't last so long, even with antibiotics and a nebuliser. Before it died it was bleeding profusely and aborted three young! It was considered to be Rat poison or similar! I have written a...

    Hedghogs suffering?

Hhmm! I had a read about that this evening Pete. It seems that the metalhydrwhatever it is is only toxic to a hedghog after they have eaten around two hundred of the things. If the Internet is to be believed! To be quite honest, there are not a lot of gardens around us!

    Hedghogs suffering?

In the last two/three weeks I have picked up a couple of Hedgehogs that were suffering. The first one had a lot of ticks and lumps on its nose (maybe ticks) and was struggling to breathe. Now I know that they can suffer from respiratory problems but I put the first one down just to ill health or...

    Tawny Owl

So there I was at work early Sunday morning. I run Markets and Antique Fairs etc. I started at 5am and by 6.30 someone was shouting at me, Shaun, Have you got an emergency number for the RSPB? Of course I didn't, so I asked. What's happened now? There's an Owl! So I drop everything and run over...

    White Starling

There is a black and white Crow or perhaps a Raven in a field/trees just near me. It appears that it can't fly at the moment! Been feeding it up a bit!

    Bike Show Bee.

I spend quite a bit of time on another forum following my other passion which is Hotrods. A forum member took these pictures at a recent Car/Bike Show and had posted them up as they were interesting. Thought the members here may also be interested.
