    1 acre field for bees

We farm a reasonable acreage so no issue with machinery. I was thinking a single crop like borage or OSR or sunflowers might have been a lot handier than trying to manage a wild flower meadow to be honest. Just wondered what would be the biggest nectar producer as my main motivator would be...

    1 acre field for bees

We live in the middle of a golf course, so there’s heaps of trees and hedgerows, plenty of gorse (whins) but probably not a lot in the way of wild flowers. A meadow would be lovely, but the seed is extortionate and it’s a fair bit of work to keep the grass from out competing the flowers. I...

    1 acre field for bees

Hi all, I have a 1 acre grass paddock beside my house that I just top with a flail mower to keep tidy but am now wondering about putting in a crop that would provide nectar for honey production. Ideas in my head range from a dedicated crop like Borage or Sunflowers, to a complete wild flower...

    Home made vapouriser

What's the craic with OA Vaping Ok so all the books say to trickle OA between the frames but I then stumbled across this article online from just last year, which says vaporising the oxalic acid does a far superior job...

Opinions - best vehicle for Beeks?

My choice would be a cheap crew cab pickup, keep the little beasties outside on the deck and travel inside in safety. I hate driving with bees inside the car

    Prefered Super Setup?

Been using manleys since I started and moving away from them as the bees seem to draw the comb very unevenly and they get welded together with propolis.

    First inspection with bare hands

I'm still on the leather gauntlets and in my third year beekeeping without a sting yet, call me a wimp but I don't relish the idea of being stung. I can also manipulate everything just fine with the leather, they are a good snug fit. Hats off to anyone doing it bare handed, I just couldn't..

    Contaminated super frames

Isn't there a risk that the queen will lay out the super?

    Drones flying today

One of my hives is brimming with bees and has a fair few drones roaming about and more drone brood ready to hatch. Found 2 or 3 play cups but nothing with an egg. Are they getting in the mood for the inevitable?

    Bee sting honey

Would this be any use for desensitisation for us beeks?

Swienty Poly Nationals - design change

What type of crown board and queen exclude do folk normally use with these hives? Quite interested to join the revolution and see brood right out into the outer most frames!!

    Feeling pretty down today......

Accidents happen, I knocked a frame over on the grass last year and lost my queen near the end of August, managed to introduce a bought in mated queen and the hive has survived winter. Out of 50-60,000 residents though you would be dreadfully unlucky to have squished HM.

    Ivy frames

Fair enough advice, will avoid going forward.
