I had a similar problem as well with a new hive some years ago.The queen I always thought was taking walks out! Get emback in, make sure the queen has clipped wings , check no queen cells present and put a queen excluder on the base for a while to stop her walking out..At least with that done...
Well my first ever attempt at writing a blog so here goes...As posted in the forum We went recently to an old apiary, not visited or used to my knowledge for at least some 12 to 15 years ago, the bee keeper had long since gone. We visited just to see if there were any serviceable hive parts...
Thanks to all for your help and advice...Much appreciated. We too think that after 15 years ( and it could be more!) to have such a strong colony is a chance not to be missed if possible with no harm done.. We will keep you informed ( possibly through a blog if I can sort that out! Cheers...P

Ok here is the question...Today we tried and failed miserably to collect up a massive hive of bees that had remained untouched in an old hive for the last 15 plus years , the hive was almost rotten and the frames could not be removed as they were brittle and the comb was at diagonals!The hive...
