    My other half eats loads of honey produced at the bottom of the garden. His hay-fever is still awful after several years. When people tell me about the benefits of honey for hay-fever sufferers I just say 'Some people say that.'

    I usually wear black gloves. When I've used yellow ones there is no difference in the attitude of the bees. It's a wives' tale. Just be gentle.

    Making fondant/candy

    Making fondant is like making fudge. You need a sugar thermometer to take away the guesswork. They're cheap these days. Pouring into bags is an interesting concept as it would need expert timing. I've made fudge for years and rarely manage to get the exact point to stop beating. Use takeaway...

    Treating bee stings with heat.

    Hot water, as hot as you can bear but not boiling or anything dangerous. Holds the itching at bay for a while and then repeat.
