Method for combining a Nuc with a queenless hive.

Use the News paper method. Take the roof and the crown board and any supers off the queenless hive. Put news paper over the brood box and put a queen excluder on top of the News paper. Then put a spare brood box on top and put all the frames from the nuc and then shake all the bees' in it. use a...

Stirling Board or Plywood for tops of Roofs

I have been using a Crown Board with 7mm on one side and 30mm on the other. This can be inverted for treatment or to hold insulation. This year I've left the kingspan on the hives so this has effectively closed the feed hole. one consequence of the insulation is that the bees' have been filling...

Stirling Board or Plywood for tops of Roofs

I was wondering if Stirling Board is better for the top of roofs than Plywood. I have several shop bought roofs that use Stirling Board and they never seem to have any condensation issues. However my home made ones using plywood seem to get black mold on the underside. The ventilation on my...

Dead Fridge? More like Honey warmer to be!

Take a look at http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/index.php there is loads of info about converting fridges. In stead of a bulb think about a 60 watt tube heater they are about 10-12 inches long and water proof.

    Self build nuc

B&Q sell alsorts of bits of metal that could be used as runners. Like the idea of Van fitters for Plywood. I have done a similar thing for felt for Nuc roofs, got a few off cuts from a place that makes Garden Sheds.

Rain, Rain and more Rain, a cancelled Basic exam and a flooded Apiary

Thanks, yes was the worst rain I can remember it just didnt stop for 36 hours. A lot of people have had their homes flooded in Croston thats only a few miles away and prity close to Hiveabee. So a bit of mud around the allotment is nothing compared to having your home flooded.

No one had told me it was cancelled so I thought I should go along anyway, just in case. I was...
