Yep - I was fine for 4 years and then out of the blue - pow ... the knockout blow. Wasn't even a full venom sack. Absolutely gutted. On the plus side I had 4 fabulous years of beekeeping and met a wonderful group of people along the way. Would still recommend it to anyone ... even the doctor...
Is it possible that your bees have poorly tummies - maybe from fermented syrup? I had this problem a couple of years ago ... major pollination issues!!! I took the feeders off the hives and it seems to correct itself to normal levels after a couple of days. Depends on whether the bees can...
My understanding is that different strains of bees are more temperature sensitive than others. That said, I would have thought that even the 'soft' ones would fly at 15oC!
Funny - I had been pondering about beekeeping for a while ... but it was watching this series last time bees were on (running in a swarm) that finally sold me!!! Will definitely tune in not worthy
I stopped inspecting at the end of August - just treating & feeding now. In my book you can tell if they have enough stores

2. 'Heft...
I have been feeding my bees since the end Aug with commercial syrup ex ****** and I have 2 hives that have taken 30L and 28L respectively already. Now I'm beginning to wonder whether I should stop feeding them or whether to carry on until they stop taking it down. Would appreciate your...
I planted a whole load of crocuses for the bees a couple of years ago .... the squirrels really appreciated my efforts - dug up all but a handful & munched them Hope you're 'squirrel free' !!!
We had lots of Balsam around here and a great honey crop as a result for the past couple of years. HOWEVER, the council decided to have a clear out at the end of last year and all but a few stems remain. I'm hoping that these will seed merrily this year and we'll be back to normal soon. Shame...
I had the same happen to me - a 2012 queen that had only just mated & started laying. One queen cell in the middle of a frame and that was it. I figured supercedure and left nature to take its course figuring that they wouldn't swarm. Then only a day later they were off. Upon reflection, I...
:iagree: Have been wondering how to handle crystallised OSR honey for a bit now. Great advice - thanks. Will need to get my act together on the extraction front a bit earlier next year ... another lesson learned :banghead:
