    Hot week

Robinia in the Varese area of Italy was a non event, 3 weeks of cold, wet and wind. This week it's hitting 40 as it did in May. So a good time to test my new Oz Armour vented suit :)

    Dadant-Blatt hive

Best plan, I bought some bees over on National frames, real pain. Now on 'local' lit and so easy to go to the local agri shop to buy stuff. The acacia flow in Varese was a disaster (the main flow here), 3 weeks of cold, rain or wind.

tips on strumming around a hive

4 stroke strimmer and in a bee suit (mobile sauna). It's nearly 40C in the afternoon and 26-28 in the early morning. Too hot at the moment to lock them in, besides all the hives have huge beards. They don't seem bothered except when in the flight lines.

    Introducing a queen...

All capping are normal, as before queen present and functioning, just badly; double eggs, and double lavae. No drones, the colony isn't strong enough for that.

    Introducing a queen...

It was a 3 1/2 frame nuc over the winter, Transfered this and another nuc to full hives at the same time. The other hive has 8 frames(langstroth) and already filling a super. She was a 'bad' layer. I have eggs, lavi and capped. But in very low numbers, just sustaining not growing. Certainly...

    Introducing a queen...

Laying queen. All eggs are at the bottom of the cells, none on the sides. If I remove the old queen and leave the new queen locked in with her companions would that work for a few days, then I can ensure no new eggs??

    Introducing a queen...

I have a colony with a problem Bought it as a nuc with a 2016 queen. Arrived in late march on 3 1/2 frames and still on 3 1/2 frames. Closer inspection revealed about 30-40% of cells were multiple eggs. She laying as brood etc. New queen (mated and tested) arrived today in a plastic cage and...

    Swarm arrival...

I was working here this morning and came back after lunch to this. I'd put the bait hive there about 2 weeks ago purely because I had a spare nuc and it looked like a nice spot on the garage roof. (the blue plastic was covering the concrete roof after the roof panels were removed). Video of...

    3 Months Evaluation

Could you put a wooden 'shed' over the hive with a wind tower like the old buildings in Bur Dubai? Gentle sprinkling of water to cool them? Being Dubai maybe aircon and electric doors..........
