Re-queening or dealing with monster hives

I've got a monster hive, queen has BIAS on all frames except the front ones on a double brood, has also filled a super with BIAS and started on the next one on a couple of frames. Luckily hubby and I inspect this hive together as it's getting so big. Has also got another super on top their...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Had a phone call from a lady about a swarm in a village about 5 miles away. When we got there she explained that had come from a hive in her garden, which was a friends, the friend is a week into a two week holiday. The beekeeper had done an artificial swarm with the queen in a nuc with flying...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

They were 1st all over an air brick on the house, but then moved to the right hand side of the house, where they had stayed. They were...

    Bees in pheasant feeder.

Bought the whole feeder home. Wrapped in hessian and a bin bag. Managed to attach a plastic tub with fondant over the bottom hole, with the aid of s block if wood and a hive strap. Worked very well. Found some foil covered bubble wrap and attached this to the front as well. The bees seem to like...

    Foxes removal

You could either use a humane trap (I think also suggested by Fatbee) and get the fox shot or taken away. I watched a program a couple of years ago where there were pest controllers who had rifle licences which allowed them to shot foxes in urban areas, as in peoples gardens, not out in the...

    Foxes removal

A friend had one after her chickens. It killed 2 when she scared it off. Luckily she had a humane trap. Popped one of the deceased chickens in as bait. Less than half an hour, foxy was in the trap. We went over with the rifle. It was skin and bone, covered head to toe in mange. Just sat there...

    Advice on bee charities

A friend of mine has asked me if there are any bee charities she could donate to. Their company make skate boards and they are going to make a skate deck with a bee graphic about their decline. They want to give money per deck to a 'bee charity'. Any ideas who would be the best? They won't sell...

    Bees in pheasant feeder.

That's what I was thinking, want to get them out as soon as it gets nice enough to do so, but give them protection until that point in time. There should be a lid at the other end, which should make things easier.

    Bees in pheasant feeder.

A friend has been out on his shoot and found a pheasant feeder that has fallen over has become home to a colony of bees. Good job it's been a mild winter. Will go and collect them, and leave them in the feeder until the weather is warmer. Might put some hessian and cover in tarp around...
