    Is there a Dartingtonhive user?

    Current Dartington hives have a pitched roof in 2 parts. I'm 5'2" and can lift them no bother at all. See www.dartingtonhives.co.uk I'll try to post a photo of my hive shortly.

    Dartingtons are ideal for smaller, female, or older people. You don't have to move the hive once it's set up. I'm very pleased with mine. You can either buy the plans on CD from Robin Dartington, or a ready made hive from one of his licensees. Mine came from www.dartingtonhives.co.uk

    what to paint a hive with

    I'm also a new beekeeper this year. The hive is 18mm birch ply Dartington. Most paint manufacturers seem to suggest a waiting period of 6-12 weeks before putting bees into the painted box. I didn't want to do that so in the end I went for the Beehive Paint sold by Thorne's. No solvents. We'll...
