What did you do in the Apiary today?

Apiguard in September and OA in January. I would be very surprised if it was disease TBH. My gut feeling is that despite being a 2023 queen, is that she is failing. The nuc of bees she gave me was pretty small for an overwintered one - she lives just up the coast from me and in comparison, I...

Needs must when there isnt that much about I suppose. They were on my pear blossom yesterday and thought that was always a last resort.

One of my neighbours planted a hedge of hawthorn at the back of my home apiary. The bees seem to be saving energy in this cool weather and just nipping over the fence.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I installed a lovely nuc of bees from Paynes yesterday afternoon. Super calm and gentle, good BIAS (4&half frames) and a big fat queen (Henrietta) who was busily laying eggs. They were already out early this morning bringing in pale yellow pollen. Quite a lot of bees yesterday were coming back...

    Yet another newbie!

Welcome. It’s a great forum with loads of knowledgeable and helpful people and as a newbee you can ask lots of daft questions for at least a year!

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Oh heavens, I’d probably end up lassoing my feet and toppling into a hive!

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Carried on painting the nucs that I bought last year but they got pressed into action almost immediately when it all went a bit swarmy. Six done, just the three left to do....

What did you do in the Apiary today?

If it's any consolation, I have already lost a hive tool as well :-(

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Popped over to check on the @Black Mountain Honey queen in my three frame nuc. I popped the tab off yesterday and they've almost demolished the fondant plug so gently released her as the bees were very calm. She disappeared between two frames and there was a very contented buzzing from the nuc...

    A bit of light reading

Oh got it! ('merkin is our local slang for a resident of the USA - not many that I worked with were even close to being a nine niner!)

Hawthorn, most local fruit trees in blossom - apple just starting. My bees are coming back with some very funky looking lime coloured pollen - not sure what that might be!
