    Timing of winter oxalic treatment

Interested in people's view on timing of winter treatment. I treated using sublimated oxalic acid over a 3 week period in the autumn and I was planning to do a winter treatment as well. Two questions: 1) Is a winter treatment really necessary given that I treated in September? 2) If one does...

Is it just me, or does this seem like a pointless product? Is mite drop not a easier metric for infestation? https://youtu.be/QxYE2LLTYAo

Winter oxalic necessary if bees treated with oxalic in autumn?

I treated my bees this autumn with three doses of sublimated oxalic acid, at 7 day intervals. My question is, is it really necessary to treat them again this winter, just 90 days later? Would be interested to hear what others do.

    Oxalic sublimation for Autumn Treatment

Is there a consensus on the use of sublimated oxalic as an autumn treatment? I've seen some posts suggesting 3 treatment 5 days apart. Should the amount of sublimated oxalic be the same as during a 1x winter treatment?

    Thoughts on Aggression

Definitely a link between colony size an aggression. The question is does size cause aggression or visa versa. The conventional wisdom is that aggressive bees are no more productive than gentle bees, but I'm not convinced. I've seen my gentle bees get decimated by wasps, for example. Doesn't...

    Feral Bees- Catherine Thompson

We've had a honeybee colony in our chimney for at least 20 years (was already established when we bought the house 20 years ago). I remember discussing it with Catherine at one of her talks. During this time I have never seen a period when they weren't active (outside of winter). The bees do...

    Oxalic acid sublimation vs trickling

I wasn't very active on the forum for a year or two and on my return it seems that the standard method of applying OA in the U.K. Has gone from trickling to sublimation. What changed? Has there been new research or guidelines? Or is it more a change in fashion?

Moving hives about half a mile

I have to move 4 hives about half a mile prior to the end of December. I've heard that in the winter one can move hives this distance if you temporarily obstruct the entrances with sticks and leaves once they've arrived at the new location. Has anyone had experience doing this? The hives are...

    Wasps

    Wasps

Any clever ideas on how to deal with a hive that is bring attacked by large numbers of wasps day after day? It's my gentlest colony and unfortunately they seem to be gentle with the invaders. I'm feeding at the moment and have been thinking about removing the syrup and then restarting once...

    Alternatives to Buckfast bees

I have had multiple experiences where the progeny queens F2 of purchased gentle buckfast queens have been vile. Not sure if it's a trait of buckfasts per se, but no question that it is a regular occurrence.
