    bees not flying

So 2nd year of beekeeping and details from my course are a little fuzzy so I have a question for the more experienced. My bees do not seem to have woken up to the fact that the sun is out and it is quite warm (fluctuating between 11-15 degrees over the last week and a half). Very little flying...

    Celandines

All the celandines are flowering right next to my hives - I read that bees love the pollen from these plants and yet mine are totally ignoring it - in favour of the gorse which again is flowering prolifically a little further away. Do bees like celandine or have I read some misinformation?

    Fondant on or off?

You mention you have insulation still in place as do I - just wondered when it would be a good time to think about removing it. Temperature is fluctuating so wildly at the moment

    Moving hive short distance

I moved both my hives in 1 go a few weeks ago (about 300m) in the really cold snap - all seem settled.

    Re siting bees

Thanks for all the advice - moved them today. Have kept the entrance sealed but will open up tomorrow a bit and cover with moss and twiggy bits Thanks

    Re siting bees

Haven't moved them yet - luckily. Today was mild and dry and they were quite active. Will wait till we have cold dry snap, maybe snow and then move and cover entrance with twigs etc

    Re siting bees

They have been flying on the rare day that we have not had non stop rain and when we had one day of sunshine they all took advantage!

    Re siting bees

I have been following all the recent threads and discussions about moving your hive less than 3 miles and the chance of higher success when the weather is cold. It still hasn't get really cold down here (North Cornwall/Devon) just really wet. They are not flying in this weather - should i hold...

Is this a pollen flow or should I be worried?

Mine have found some late himalyan balsam and also the wild mint is flowering and they are all over that. I also have a couple of pink sedums which have a lot of bees and butterflies. Not sure what colour the pollen would be though

    HELP! Irate Wife

Putting brown paper down over wax and then running an iron over the top is good way of getting it out of fabric. It should work on the cooker top but it would be a bit awkward to get it into the cooking pans! After melting the wax (old pyrex jug in microwave as I am the wife) I did a bit of a...
