    Bees not clustering

Who would have thought a question about bees clustering could have started a discussion on cholesterol :offtopic:

    Bees not clustering

Oh well fingers crossed then. They definately weren't queenless when we tucked them up for winter, but who knows? Only time will tell.

    Bees not clustering

Have just put fondant on my hives. Unfortunately one looks to have died out but others seem ok, nicely clustered - all except one. This colony was a swarm we collected and which built up very quickly. It is always the first to have bees flying in mild weather, but on taking off crown board...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Inspected 3 of our hives. The last one (we always inspect it last as bees really really like to glue everything up) was full to bursting of angry bees. It is usually a very calm colony so we have no idea why they are so angry. Did a quick inspection - we both got stung several times though...

    Bees and Thunder (VLF sound)

Our bees really tetchy this morning. Sure enough we have had 4 bouts of thunder and heavy rain this afternoon. Still - good for the garden :)

    What do you smoke ?

I start off with newspaper in the bottom, then pet bedding (straw) bought from pet shop. Gives off a lovely cool smoke.

    syrup

I took my feeders off yesterday. I think if they have stopped taking it down then that is a good guide that they no longer need it.

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Took off feeders as they seem to have stopped taking it down now. Plenty of ivy pollen coming in though and they seem to have plenty of stores. Picking up fondant soon for feeding January ish - if necessary of course.

    Bee sting on face

Hubby got stung on the side of his nose a while back and he looked like quasimodo for about a week - so be prepared.

    winter preparation

Newbies fuss so much (me being one of them) because they want to do the best for their bees, and not having years of experience behind them, they ask the lovely people on here for advice.
