    Oxalic Acid Vaporizer

hi - my question is more a question of 'is it necessary to do the oxalic treatment as well as the apiguard?'

    Oxalic Acid Vaporizer

I used Apiguard dish treatments in late August and September ( two treatments) but bee contact says also necessary in December to do oxalic treatment? But then said 'of course it is my choice'! What is your opinion please? everyone agree with this?

    Wrapping Beehives for Winter

Thankyou - The stores are now good and the super is now empty. Because of my back injury, I cannot now remove the super. I was planning to feed some fondant come January if they need it?

    Show me the honey.

Thankyou for your encouragement - but allotment rules are fierce! and we had to construct the L-shaped 6foot fence around the hive for some protection. We are not allowed to put them on another plot. They would have to apply to keep bees themselves. Added to this is the time constraint of...

    Show me the honey.

very true words. I was encouraged to begin beekeeping by a fellow allotmenteer. It was lockdown and I had the time. It was the first year that they were allowed on our allotments. I did not until 6 months in realise how much it would take over my life - reading, learning, looking, and buying...

    Wrapping Beehives for Winter

many thanks for your encouraging reply. As I have now a back issue, I will leave the nadirsuper under the 14 x 12 brood box as there is an OMF. I will add some fondant in February if needed, or are you suggesting that it is fine to put a super with fondant now when you say "a super of food in...

    Wrapping Beehives for Winter

thankyou for this helpful info. I hope that the bottom shallow won't cause any problems over the winter. I am a bit uncertain why we put it there to be honest, but it was when we were feeding in a rapid feeder from the top to help build up stores and perhaps it was to ensure a bit of space too?

    Wrapping Beehives for Winter

nadir shallow was recommended by local bee guru to overwinter as broodbox then protected from drafts from entrance? I think I have understood correctly.

How do you add fondant in January without disturbing the bees? I am confused. At the moment my bees have stores and are ready for winter with insulation in roof.

    Oxalic Acid Vaporizer

hello all. I know this might open up a 'hornets nest', but as a newbie I find all this technical kit rather offputting. I used apiguard dishes this September, but understand that to eradicate Varroa, many recommend a treatment of oxalic acid in December too, which sounds like a very noxious...

    When to put supers on?

I can vouch for care needed - just ripped my back muscle whilst trying to 'heft' a brood box full of frames. So out of action for at least two weeks : ( Perhaps we should have an injuries thread? buying a back support belt from Boots now...

    Struggling here, any help appreciated.

thankyou! I just thought it didn't add to the questions that were being asked - just me being a bit mournful?
