    Thank you Ian. Until this morning, that had been my plan, but I tend to over-engineer things and the price of timber is pretty high, so it was a cost/time/longevity/minimal future disruption consideration. Open to any advice here.

    Good morning all, we are moving Somerset, where I will finally have space for a decent sized plot for bees. I was thinking to encourage them to take height on flight (ie avoid as much contact as possible with children and pets in the garden), I would site the apiary in a 3.8m x 3.8m fruit cage...

    Eating before an inspection

    Hello all and thanks for all of the education that this forum provides. A quick question: I've read here that bees get wound up if the person inspecting has eaten a banana or pear drops. I was curious to see what other foods (or even scents) one should avoid prior to an inspection. Thank you...

    Beekeeper assistant

    Walworth Community Garden has a teaching apiary (SE17 3BN). Volunteers meet on a Sunday at 10:30 (currently every other week - next meet on Sunday, 7th March). And when possible, the Centre will resume classes (usually over 2 days).
