    Plastic foundation

Hi blackie, Yes I probably will take a run over there as its so close and the P&P is so much for the weight.

    Plastic foundation

I know that the bees dislike it to start with but have a friend that seems to have lots of success with using it. Was just hoping that if I could find a supplier, then maybe they would have BS sizes. I was going to give it a try next year to see how well it works. See what you mean about the...

Hi, Does anyone know where to get plastic foundation? Seems that the usual places have stopped supplying it. Thanks Kev

    transparent/"glass" CB

I have a perspex CB, found the cheapest place was a local sign maker who also makes displays for show stands etc. Needs to be 5mm thick to support some weight. I drilled small holes around the edge to be able to put a frame on it to provide the bee space. They cut it to size and cut a 50mm hole...

My First Honey Extractor What One?

The Giordan Drill extractors definatly take BS Manley frames. As for other makes, I suspect that they will but it is worth checking with the manufacturer, just in case. Kev

Breaking up a large box colony

Sorry, I didn't explain my self properly. Was thinking that the Box would remain suspended a bit like a sedan chair and the new brood box would be rasied up to the bottom of the box. To inspect just remove the wedges that are holding the brood box up against the box and slide it out to do the...

Breaking up a large box colony

I Agree, but think its worth getting the queen into a proper brood box before trying to raise some nuc's. I think that trying to break up the colony as part of the cutout risks damaging the queen and as you said chilling the brood. Just an idea. Depends on there being some space around the...

Breaking up a large box colony

Hi, These things can be problematic to sort out and difficult to really give advice without knowing more about what you want to do. Is the box movable and is it nessasary to not damage the box? I think that if it was me the first step would be to get the colony into a movable frame hive -...

    Squatters

Hi, Have you tried phoning the Secretary of the your local association? They may know who it is. Ours seems to know everyone and where they keep their bees. If he does ask him to pass your number/email on to them so you can discuss sharing the apiary. I would keep it friendly, much better to...

    Beecam advice

Hi Dick, Sounds to me like you are suffering from voltage drop down the cable. The problem with this is that there will not be the full 12v avalible at the camera. Try using the 12v 800mA psu and feed it to the camera via some thicker wire, probably some cheap speaker wire would be worth a try...

    cheap aluminium

Does any one know how thick or what gauge the litho plates are? As i have a few roof's to cover just wondering if its worth trying to buy alu sheet of the same thickness locally. Given that the plates from F P are £4.50 by the time you add P&P and an 8'x4' sheet will give 8 600mm squares. Would...
