I see that there are truly unkind and supercilious individuals even in the UK. Your forum is best left to you. Cheers.

    Problems with drawn comb

The photos are showing up on my end. Would someone let me know if you’re also unable to see them? I don’t have varroa in my hive. I was told that a powdered sugar sprinkle encourages the bees to groom one another and helps dislodge varroa, and is a good preventative going into fall. I’m...

    Problems with drawn comb

Hello everyone: I’m a new beekeeper this year, and already I’ve grappled with SHB and a drought in Texas. I did a dusting with powdered sugar as instructed as a precautionary tactic so that my hive wouldn’t go into fall with varroa and I wouldn’t have to use chemicals. During my inspection...

What's flowering as forage in your area

I always wonder why bees choose some flowers over others even when they are in full bloom. I have mint that is covered with blossoms, and I watched the bees yesterday flit all over it, but move on? Will someone tell me the reason why?

Whoa! I did not know that. I live in a rural area of Texas and pay for the Nature ID app so that I can keep track of what bloomed from what to year and what the bees foraged on. I didn’t know the phone would ID plants.

    Putting Golden Mean Hive together

I have a beautiful wild beehive by the creek. I’ve passed it everyday—often multiple times a day. The bees are busy, docile and productive. I’d like to see if I can urge that hive to split. Hence, the new hive.

    Putting Golden Mean Hive together

I thought to put it on a stand of a refurbished bedside table to hold the smoker, tools, etc. is there any logical, hygienic reason not to do this?

    Putting Golden Mean Hive together

Good morning all! I am new to beekeeping and have purchased a beehive. It arrived with no instructions or assembly directions and I wondered if I could post a picture and get thoughts on whether I’ve done this correctly. The company I purchased it from makes great products, but never answers...
