Time to go Electric… 12 frame extractor recommends.

I can’t remember now, but a decent stainless electric extractor at the time was certainly still way out of my budget! Which is the very reason I made one! So what I spent back then was still way cheaper than buying a new manufactured one, I also made it without the sharp edges 😆

Time to go Electric… 12 frame extractor recommends.

If you’re a bit handy in the workshop it’s quite easy to fabricate your own extractor for a fraction of the price of a new one. I brought a reversible motor from Thornes, they were around £350 at the time, and their 9 frame radial cage which were about £100. (I expect they are a bit more now?)...

    How much?

I actually sell it as honey from our village, and state on the label it’s from the flowers and hedgerows around the village, we have a pretty label which everyone comments on, don’t get me wrong we do have regular customers, but nothing like we used to have 10-15 years ago, back then we sold...

    How much?

I like the idea of selling it by the frame! Looks like a good return (can’t believe people would pay £95 for one!) 😆 Lot less hassle than extracting and jarring, that would be like having wooden cash machine's down the garden 😂

    Badgers

Also worth using small ratchet straps around your hives if Mr Badger is about, At least it’ll keep things together if he gets heavy handed.

    Badgers

Electric fence Is the only way I’ve successfully stopped Mr Badger! They have plagued our garden for years, stripping plums from the smaller tress, and smashing their way through the fruit cage every year to destroy the Raspberry crop! I’ve had scratch marks on the hives, and one slightly...

    How much?

I’ve tried selling £6 Lb at the gate and nobody buys it! Drop to a fiver and it sells! With the price of everything rising all the time, processing and selling honey hardly seems worth the effort now, Which is a shame as I’ve never really done it for profit, just the enjoyment and just to make...

    How much?

Hi all I’ve been selling honey for quite a long time at the gate and still charging £5 a lb I’ve decided that this is too cheap these days, so I’ve brought some 190ml jars, Does anyone have a rough price as how much to charge for such a jar?? I was thinking £4 - £4.50 would that be...

    Battery options

I work at a large tree surgery firm as a mechanic/fitter Over the last few years we’ve been buying rechargeable hedge cutters/chainsaws etc due to the shift in climate We’ve had quite a few issues with the Sthil products, long handled hedge cutters were the worst offender, the units would just...

    Battery options

we’ve got a straight shaft Stiga strimmer on test at work at the moment, it’s a very robust bit of kit, and it’s a lot more refined than the Sthil equivalent...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

I’ve been doing one every evening since Monday, last night was fun to say the least! Like you, all on double brood, halfway through the weather took a rather unexpected change, Temp seemed to drop 5 deg in 5 mins, sun disappeared instantly, and a really cold wind got up, and started spitting...

What’s doing this in my garden?

Classic sparrowhawk kill, they do exactly the same in our garden, usually happens quick as a flash, if it’s too big to take on the spot they just pick the breast out and leave, they rarely return for the rest.
