    All hives have mated queens from this year all laying well. so do not need drones for mating and I'm pretty sure that I read that freezing drone comb was a way to control varroa, and alcohol wash of adult bees would be the same for mite load if same numbers used was the same.     Self contained water feature with fine spray fountain filled with stones or glass beads ,just top up as required.May be a drop of lemon grass oil to attract them to start, keep topped up do not let stones dry and encourage moss growth. works for mine.

    I don't when working on hives but do when going out and swmbo insists I put on smelly stuff, it's just I've noticed when passing hives wearing different pongs.
